Dancing! Singing! Leaving!
What a night, huh? First up, Dancing With The Stars….
So, I wasn’t massively impressed with the whole Busby Berkley thing. Would have rather seen our pros dance instead. I was, however, massively impressed with Dmitry’s sweet backside. Bare chest wasn’t bad either. That fine young man can dance for us whenever he wants. (Seriously, check out the tush on that guy.)
I also love the dance off. It gives the results show night something to actually watch for rather than ff to the end result. Oh, and Jewel? Dang, girl, you can sing like no other. One of the better performances on that show. And for a song I thought I’d never want to hear again. Very, very well done.
Otherwise, no surprises really. Bottom two were Belinda and Woz. Neither really improved on their dance off dance (not that we really expected them to, but when it gets down to some of the better teams, I think the dance off might be kinda exciting!) In the end, Woz lives to make Karina miserable for at least another week (did you see her expression? Like she wanted to cut a bitch. Wow.) Belinda go-go’s home. Nothing surprising there…and I think Woz is out next week if his foot doesn’t end his time on the show sooner.
On to Amercian Idol: Grand Ole Opry week. Country week isn’t noted for being the “fun” week on this show, although I think Dolly Week last season was a very welcome surprise and one of my faves of that season. This year? Not so much. Not that anyone did poorly. Actually, they all sang quite well, if not particularly memorably.
And then there was Adam.
Holy cow. Total love it/hate it and the judges sure made their feelings clear (ever so hypocritically so, I might add.) Tell Lil she should have sung Whitney (which you KNOW would have been the kiss of death and they’d have all jumped her for it) and turn right around and slam Adam for not making his country. Seriously.
And Simon? Lil Rounds is not the same as Lil Kim. Or Lil Mama. It’s Lil….as in short for Lilly. Or Lillian. NOT Little. God, I hope someone clears that up for him. How stupidly patronizing was that?
Of course, Lil’s version was entirely boring, but that’s not the point. Adam….okay, we’ll get back to him in a moment. In other news, Sarver was predictable, Allison was very good, Kris was adorable and very good, Lil forgettable, Anoop swoon-worthy, Gokey -seriously, next time he’s coming out in a halo and wings, I swear. White jacket bathed in white light singing Jesus Take The Wheel? All that was missing was a choir and framed photo of his dead wife. I mean, he did a fine job with the song, he’s great…but sheesh already. Scott Hornsby Lightfoot sings the same song he sings every week (I haven’t verified that, but I swear, same song every week…) Alexis should have kept the dirty and looked like Dolly without the cups, Megan might have actually rocked this week if she wasn’t dying of the flu (major props for making it through the song) but if she doesn’t stop that swaying thing while she sings I might have to throw something, and Matt who is sweetness and perfection and all things that are good and right in the world.
And then there’s Adam.
Okay, so I realize that a lot of folks are going to hate what he did to Ring of Fire. I submit, however, that Johnny Cash would not have been one of them. (Johnny who was praised for the covers he did of Trent Reznor/Nine Inch Nails “Hurt”, amongst others really enjoyed changing things up.) Like it or not, he certainly would have respected the attempt. And yes, Dilana did a version like this on Rockstar which is likely where Adam found it… although I saw that performance and the big difference is that Adam actually, you know, sang. For me, this was original, unique, showed a range that is ridiculous bordering on unbelievable, and stuck that tune in my head the rest of the night and into today…and is the only one this morning that I honestly remember. Will I download it? I don’t know. It’s more something I want to watch then simply listen to (unlike Black/White, also still stuck in my head, which I did download.) It was like watching Jim Morrison do Johnny Cash, only with a range. And maybe a little Michael Hutchence/INXS thrown in there to just make it even spookier. Still, even if I’d hated it, I respect him for consistently and very confidently knowing who he is as an artist, and staying there while respecting the work he’s dealing with. So, my votes went to him. Again. And judges? Shut up.
What did you think? Who is going home? Unlike Dancing With The Stars, that is much trickier question on Idol this season. I’d like to think it will be Sarver or Scott…but who knows. I’d honestly like it to be Megan, but I am apparently the only one living in that alternative universe who thinks she can’t sing at all. You certainly wouldn’t get that from the judges. Who is your bet for the bottom two? And wouldn’t a sing off be great? I’d love that.
Now, on to the fun stuff! Another winner!! Rose was the winning blog babe yesterday. Today, the winner is? Marlynn!! You wench!! You finally did it!!! (Disclosure…I actually know Marlynn from my “other” job teaching paper crafts and she has been known to give me a little grief over not having an “in” with the author to score the win. Hey, you have to have your name pulled like everyone else - and today it was your turn! Ha!!) Happy birthday, indeed. Just let me know which title you want and I’ll make sure it gets to you. (Give me a few choices in case I’m out of your first selection.)
Tune in tomorrow for Idol MAC, another Free Stuff winner,…and another sneak cover peek!! Hope everyone had a fun (and safe) St Patrick’s Day. If you need an excuse to have some chocolate chip cookie dough ice cream…today is actually the “official” party day this week for me….so you have my blessings! Blame it on me!!
And now? DISH!!!

Congrats Marlynn!
First off let me say “Happy Birthday”! Now I agree with you on the Megan thing. She just doesn’t do it for me and that dancing I have the hardest time watching her. I think either Michael Sarver or maybe Scott will go this week. Not to be mean or anything but I have a really hard time watching Scott. He does well but again he just sounds the same each week. Adam was a little weird but at the same time I liked it. Lil felt forced through the first part of her song. I really like Allison and Alexis. I have to say though I haven’t decided who I really want to win yet.
Adam just freaked me out last night. He has great vocals, and I feel that he has quite a future in the music business. I just don’t know if he should be in this particular competition. American Idol is more mainstream than he wants to be.
Megan…I just don’t get why the judges love her so much. I think she needs to be the one to go tonight.
I hope Michael makes it. I really like the guy, and I would like to see him be part of the touring group of 10. I think he just picked the wrong song last night. I would have liked to hear him do a ballad to showcase his vocals.
On DWTS, the right person went home. She can’t dance, and she showed no personality. Woz is a dear, but he needs to go next.
I havent picked my favorites yet on Idol. And while I didnt hate Adam’s performance I didnt really like it either. I understand he is not a country singer but for country night I would have expected him to at least attempt it. His version of Ring of Fire wasnt a bad one but it still seemed to be lacking something. The music was great, very different but I like that type. But his performance seemed a bit flat, it was more about how he looked than how he sang.
Happy Birthday Donna! When Adam was first singing Ring of Fire I thought exactly what Simon said but then I listened to the whole song and really liked it. I think Sarver will go home. To me, he’s just not as good as the rest of the group.
Belinda had no mojo. She did try though. Man I want Denise to go next, if only Mak didn’t have to go with her.
Happy Birthday Donna! When Adam was performing I kept thinking of Jim Morrison also. He definitely made an impression! I’m on the fence when it comes to which one should go.
I was fine with Belinda being the first to go home.
Someone had the nerve to call me while I was watching Idol and it was 10 seconds into Adam’s song so I really can’t give an honest opinion. I was disappointed in Michael and Alexis, and although I know they won’t vote him out yet - Scott doesn’t do it for me either. Anoop was a complete surprise for me - it was the first time I really liked him. I didn’t think Lil was as bad as they said.
I was glad Belinda went first - it will probably be the Woz next but on the other hand, look how long they kept Cloris on last year!
I really loved Matt and Anoop’s performances. I thought Megan did pretty good even though she was sick. I hope Lil doesn’t go home. She’s got an amazing voice.
Happy birthday, Donna! I’ve got the DWTS on TiVo and we need to catch up… There are several contestants I wouldn’t mind heading home, but it’s only one per week…
Wasn’t entirely surprised that Belinda was the first to go. Then again, I also looked up spoilers since I live on the West Coast.
I felt the same about the opening number. Didn’t do anything for me. I think the show would be better if they had some minimum qualifications for the celebrity dancers because the show doesn’t really get serious until the fourth week.

Congratulations, Marlynn. I wasn’t so sure at first about that arrangement of Ring of Fire that Adam sang but the more I listened the more I liked it, actually. I was not impressed at all with Alexis’ rendition of Jolene, though. It just fell short of the mark for me.
