And there was dancing and singing, and movin’ with the groovin’
First, it’s results night on Dancing With The Stars and maybe I was just kind of numb after American Idol, but I found the whole hour rather enjoyable in an immediately forgettable kind of way. But it was…soothing. I mean, I didn’t even fast forward once through Rascal Flatts or the Pussycat Dolls routine. What’s wrong with me?
In the end, Steve O heads out the door, which is as it should be. Next week we get group dance and a chance for the celebs to choose the outfits for their teams. I kind of loved LT wanting to put more clothes on Edyta (”She’s kind of allergic to them…”) since his momma is going to be in the audience next week. Ha! Should be fun.
You know what else should be fun? American Idol. And….not so much. Again. I know!
But they have an entire history of movies to draw great music from, and apparently the only songs AI can get approved are by Bryan Adams? Seriously? Two out of seven. And the rest, except for Kris’s exceptional Oscar winning choice, are all tired. The Rose? Aerosmith’s incredibly overdone Don’t Want To Miss A Thing? And Lionel freaking Richie?? Without David Cook to make it even remotely palatable? My God man, kill me now. Come on!
Love Tarantino and I liked that he tried to get them to perform the songs better. Of course with Adam he didn’t even try, it was just like, “Oh goody, what’s he gonna do?”
And what he did? Was Wild Thing. On Broadway. And, don’t get me wrong, after the other six all chose ballads (seriously with that!) it was great to actually get to wake up. But it’s kind of one of those had-to-be-there kind of deals where you’re probably not going to download it later. But I appreciate the guy for doing what he does. And you can’t do Mad World every week, or it also gets redundant. A definite show highlight.
Not a highlight was the way Alison butchered Aerosmith. She’s got the chops for it and as much as I loathe ever hearing that song again, it wasn’t an entirely bad choice for her range, except yikes, it was horrible. Was she sick? I dunno, but the judges praise was only warranted because, like me, they don’t want her to go home and making her go first when she’s not getting the votes, not smart.
One of the better performances of the night was Anoop, doing (gag) Adams, but at least it was listenable.
What wasn’t? Matt. Or Lil. And Lil? I love the gospel arrangement to The Rose, I really do. Except I wanted to hear Jennifer Hudson do it. Because she, unlike, so very unfortunately, you….could do that justice. I really wanted Lil to find that pocket, but it’s just not gonna be there for her. She and Matt were my bottom two for the week. Love Matt, but he doesn’t seem to understand his limitations vocally and always reaches further than he can actually go.
Kris picked a more obscure song that nobody knows even though it won an Oscar, but while he did a truly lovely job with it, truly…it was snoresville for me after a night of ballads. And Adam. I mean, great rendition and you’re totally adorable…but zzzzzzzzz.
And I’m not EVEN going to talk about Danny singing to the heavens and his dead wife. Accompanied by a freaking harp. Not. Even. Going. There. He’s not going anywhere, so what’s the point.
So, while I’d love for him to be in the bottom three, he won’t be. That’s probably going to be Lil, Matt, and I’m guessing, Alison. I hope she’s the safe one, but I think they can all worry.
All I can say is, even though it was a rather Rocky Horror Picture Show performance (which I loved that he lit up over that description! Ha!) if it wasn’t for wanting to see The Adam Spectacle every week, just for sheer what’s next anticipation, I don’t know if I’d even be tuning in any longer. How sad is that?
Very sad.
So…what about you? Why are you watching? Who do you want to see go home? Who do you think will go home? And what’s next on Dancing With The Stars? And will Taj get her quorum together tonight on Survivor? Your turn….to DISH!

DWTS - It was absolutely right that Steve-O went home. I enjoyed Rascal Flats and the pro dancers…but Carmen Electra?! How did she get that gig?
Idol - Adam is quite the chameleon, isn’t he? He is a different person every week.
Most of the night bored me, except Anoop and Adam. Some of these singers can’t choose the right song at all. Don’t they get any kind of guidance when picking out the songs?
Donna, have you seen the You Tube video making the rounds from Britain’s Got Talent? When the 47-year-old Scottish woman is singing, Simon has a look of surprised rapture on his face that I have never seen him have on Idol!
DWTS - Sorry. They need more dancing, less commercials. I’m a total reality show slut, but this one lost me after Season 2 except for the occasional flybys.
AI - Again, reality show whore here, but this one’s starting to lose me, too. In fact, last night I flipped back and forth between AI and a RERUN of America’s Next Top Model on the Oxygen Channel–I’m HOOKED on those marathons! Anyway, hard to believe after all that WORK in cities across America, they end up with this group of…well, let’s keep it polite…nice KIDS who sing about as well as the chick/guy at my local watering hole. (With the exception of Adam, Kris, and Allison.) I mean, geez. Take Lil, for instance. WTF happened to her after the first night? Did she even hit the right key last night? And Matt (who, don’t get me wrong, is adorable) doesn’t seem to hear himself in that little ear piece thingy. Otherwise, surely, he’d be choosing some alternative notes…like, um…the RIGHT ones?
Lastly, Survivor… I’m hoping the extension stirred things up a bit. Taj needs to get a clue. Fast. But it’s Survivor. ANYTHING can happen. BTW, how come I can’t remember those two Survivor China contestants who just tied the knot? (Survivor: 2; The Bachelor: 1)
I heard the You Tube and it is quite amazing. Do you think we’d ever let someone like her win even though she definitely has the voice?
Adam is always remarkable! I wanted Anoop gone until the last few weeks - I wonder if he can keep it up. I was surprised they said Allison did a good job but I guess they are playing the game - I usually love her.
I thought that Carmen Electra dance was just plain stupid.
I thought it was Steve o’s time to go. I loved Julianne and Tony’s dance. WOW.
I didn’t get the whole Carmen dance.
I can’t wait to see what outfits they make for their pro dancers. LOL
Susan Boyle - Singer - Britains Got Talent 2009
I just saw that video on the news last night and I had to check it out on youtube. You have to watch it first to hear Susan Boyle (she blew me away) and secondly just to watch Simon’s reaction to her performance.

I did get to see that You Tube vid a few days ago. Pretty awesome, huh? And yes, SImon is kind of adorable when he forgets to be stinkfacey.
As for Carmen Electra - from what I understand, way back when Pussycat Dolls was first originated, it was a modern take on the old burlesque shows that they performed at clubs around LA and NY and it became popular to have a guest celeb in the revue. Carmen was one of the first and so last night was a tribute to their now legendarymodern burlesque show (which then spawned the multi plat singing group - and yes, I know, multi plat, eriously? But true), so they got the original choreographer to do the routine last night and Carmen to reprise her original role.
And, if you take all the pussycat doll crap out and think of it more as a broadway-vaudevill revue throwback, it was kind of cute, but beyond that…a head scratcher to be sure.
