Is it fall yet?

It’s like August is ten weeks long. That’s what it feels like anyway. Both with the humidity and the complete lack of anything worth watching except shows that originated on Bravo. I can’t even get into Mad Men. I think the ennui is finally getting to me there, too. Lighten up, Mad Men! (I know, I know, but honestly…)

I checked out America’s Best Dance Crew and I think they’ve apparently gone through all the best dance crews in seasons one through three, because season four is not all that. Not even half of all that.

Which leaves Project Runway and Top Chef. I want my fall season and I want it now!

It has freed up time to read. Twenties Girl by Sophie Kinsella was fun. Also checked out Nora’s latest, Black Hills, along with Linda Howard’s Burn, and Janet’s Finger Lickin’ Fifteen. A new author was Heather Barbieri’s The Lace Makers of Glenmara.

And speaking of Nora…I will be signing a bunch of new stuff (Kissing Santa Claus, A Great Kisser and the mass market reprint of To All A Good Night) at Turn the Page Bookstore in Boonsboro, Md with her on November 7. Come join!

So, to liven things up, I think we should celebrate the final week of August with Free Stuff! Just drop an email to me at donna@donnakauffman.com with “it’s hot, I need something to cheer me up!” in the subject line. I’ll draw two lucky winners this Friday! And yes, advance copies of the fall books are on the “choose from” list!

In the meantime…what are you watching/reading/doing? I did go see Julie & Julia and really loved it. Makes me want to read Julia Child’s book and cook something in lots of butter. Gives whole new meaning to the term…..DISH!

  1. I am rcurrently eading the Bobby Faye series by Toni McGee Causey. Almost finished book 2 and book 3 is waiting in the wings. A nice fun mystery series. Next up after that is the latest Temperance Brennan book by Kathy Reichs - 206 Bones. ….. Mo

  2. I saw the Proposal a few weeks back; it was great - also enjoyed The Ugly Truth.

Am currently reading Kate Angell’s Sliding Home. VG. Really love the baseball/sport stories. Deirdre Martin’s With a Twist was VG also.

  3. Haven’t been to the movies in a while, but I’ve been catching the new season of Mad Men and Psych. I just finished Jill Shalvis’ Double Play.

  4. Pat -you’d probably enjoy Jill Shalvis’s new book Double Play (ha! Jane’s note just popped up!) It’s a baseball book. :)

I saw Ugly Truth and The Proposal, too. Enjoyed both, though the former was a lot more vulgar than I was expecting! Funny, but wow. I hear that Gerard Butler is shooting a rom com right now with Jennifer Aniston. I’ll defiinitely be looking for that one. Looking forward to the one she has coming out in a few weeks, too. She’s like comfort food. lol I always enjoy her movies.

  5. I saw the Ugly Truth the other day and I was bowled over by some of the vulgarity… but it was also laugh out loud funny, making it, for me, a pretty decent romantic comedy…

just finished Black Hills by Nora Roberts and about to start on Double Play. In the non-romantic fiction section, just finished The Doomsday Key by James Rollins and loved it.

  6. I too enjoyed Twenties Girl, but mostly I’m rereading books that I already own.

I haven’t gotten to the see the Proposal yet, but I saw the Ugly Truth(cute! but I have no desire to own it), HP 6(The book is far better than the movie), Julie & Julia(loved everything but the ending), and I really want to see Post Grad soon. My best friend and I have weekly dinner & a movie nights so I’ve been seeing a lot more movies than I usually do.

I’ll have to add those books that y’all suggested to my Christmas list!

  7. I have added Big Brother and Hell’s Kitchen to Project Runway and Top Chef.
I just finished No One Heard Her Scream by Jordan Dane. Now I’m rereading your Black Sheep trilogy.

  8. The last movie I saw was Paper Heart with Charlyne Yi and Michael Cera, which I thought was enjoyable. Shows I’m currently watching are: Drop Dead Diva, 10 Things I Hate About You, Top Chef, Project Runway, and Cold Case. I also like watching Ina Garten on Food Network. I’m currently reading Kiss An Angel by Susan Elizabeth Phillips and really liking it.

  9. Didn’t get into Big Bro this season, but just today someone turned me on to Drop Dead Diva. I’ve gone through the first two online and it’s really good! Yay! I’m also watching Big Bang Theory here and there and Jim Parsons as Sheldon totally and completely makes that show and cracks me up. I heard he’s up for an Emmy and…totally deserved!

Susan - hope you enjoy the trilogy again! I am enjoying writing the launch of a new trilogy after doing a few unconnected books. Plus it’s not killing me to have to go to Scotland every day…in my head. :)

  10. I’m currently reading Susan Mallery’s Lone Star Sisters books. Just finished a Silhouette Desire by Ann Major. Great as always. I just got Direct TV so I’m watching NCIS marathons on USA. Also like Cash In The Attic and If These Wall Could Talk on HGTV. Gearing up for the new season of Dancing With The Stars. I haven’t been to any movies lately. I use a walker and it’s hard for me to go the the movies. I would like to see The Time Travelers Wife. Even though my daughter read the book and told me some about it. Anybody seen it ? Did you like?
