Hollywood Week! Hi, Ellen!!
So, when they announced Ellen DeGeneres was going replace Paula on the American Idol judgery, I was not happy. And I love Ellen. And wasn’t entirely sad to see Paula go. Not on the scale of how not entirely sad I was to see Samantha Harris quit Dancing With the Stars, (read: giddily ecstatic) but still, I was okay with the move. However, based on Ellen’s stint as guest judge on So You Think You Can Dance, I wasn’t really amped about her taking on the shift.
Last night was her first appearance, as a judge during Hollywood Week, and…I was pleasantly surprised. She was okay. Not too over the top with the humor, and more direct and honest than I might have expected, given I thought she’d soft ball it. So, for now? I’m good with it.
I’m also good with the previews last night of some of the singers we can likely expect to see in our top 20. I liked the range of singers, in terms of style, age, type, all of it. But mostly I liked how they came out and just…sang. There weren’t too many (who were shown anyway) who felt the need to belt out a tune like they were auditioning for Broadway and had to reach the back row. Not that I don’t appreciate a good Broadway voice (/Adam Lambert) but, in terms of more realistic current talent Making It Big, I thought the potential for a number of them was pretty big.
I’m looking forward to the group rounds tonight, and hopefully seeing a few more of The Good Ones tonight.
What else I’m looking forward to is picking three winners in the Valentine Edition of Free Stuff Friday. If you didn’t enter this week or last (all entries from Feb 1 forward are still eligible, except the three who won last week) then check out this Monday’s blog post for the details, and enter already!
I am off to shovel more snow. Because Mother Nature continues to mock me. I have apologized for the open letter, I have. But the mocking, it continues…
So, whilst I shovel myself out of snow hell, the rest of you, carry on, and….DISH! Who did you love last night? Any surprises to you on who went home? Did you lose any favorites? Gain any new ones?

Well just looking outside, clearly the apology was not enough. Please write another letter acknowledging that she is really in charge here. Do something woman! Im in serious cabin fever hell here!
Sending sympathy your way about all that snow! You need to post more pictures.
I am impressed with the talent so far on Idol. I am concerned that there seem to be quite a few contestants that we haven’t seen yet. The show has focused on just some of them which puts the others at a disadvantage when it is time for fans to vote.
I don’t usually watch American Idol, but tuned in last night to see how Ellen would be as a judge. So far, so good, I thought. I liked the guy who sang his rendition of Paula Abdul’s “Straight Up,” the woman who sang “A Natural Woman,” the woman who sang Kara’s song “Terrified,” and the woman who’s a sandwich maker who sang an Ella Fitzgerald song, if I remember correctly.
Hi Donna!
I think your open letter also influences this part of the world (Austria) - it’s snowing and snowing and snowing… I don’t know where to put the snow *sigh*
greetings, Ina
