Seriously?

So, it’s all Leah’s fault. Seriously. She had to stand around at work the other day, talking about Grey’s Anatomy like it was some kind of…of….romance novel or something. Not some medical show where gory things happen and guts are on display all over the place and people die and stuff. Not like some hospital show my wimpy self wouldn’t be caught dead (ha!) watching, not even with a box of Kleenex. No. Oh no, she had to talk about it like it was all about relationships and romance and funny, witty, banter. I know, seriously!

So, I was drawn into the conversation. About McDreamy vs McVet, about Addison and McSteamy, about…about Shonda Rhimes and why she writes about all these people and her podcasts, so easily downloaded, just like Tim Gunn’s. And…and….then she did the completely unspeakable. She had DVD’s. Yes, yes, she did. Of the whole show right up to the beginning of Season 3. And she just handed them to me. Just like that.

So…I had to watch them, didn’t I? To do otherwise would have been rude. They couldn’t believe I wrote what I wrote for a living and had never given the show so much as a single, solitary little peek. I hadn’t. I hate medical shows. I hate gory stuff. And I really hate people dying. I’m a wimp, dammit! Don’t these people know anything about me?

But I had to watch them.

I had to watch all about Meredith and her mother, and Dr McDreamy and McVet, about Dr. Bailey and Dr. Webber, about Christina and Burke, and George and Callie and Izzy and the oh-so-doomed-but-damn-what-a-voice Denny, and about Addison and dear-god-drop-that-towel-I-beg-of-you Dr McSteamy. (Just who is Eric Dane and why I haven’t I seen his gorgeous self like…anytime, any place? My god.)

And yes, I blocked out the gory with my hand, and I cried. But I also laughed. A lot. And I marveled over Shonda Rhimes writing because She Gets It. And because she made me watch a damn medical show with gory stuff and dying people I Care About. Damn her. And damn my coworkers and their Thursday night pizza and brownies Grey’s Parties.

So yeah, it’s all Leah’s fault.

I’m so hopelessly hooked now.

Seriously.

What’s your latest addiction? What is your Must See show? The one you DVR or VCR just in case? (On my DVR it’s Men in Trees, Boston Legal, and now? Grey’s Anatomy. And Las Vegas whenever it shows up again.)

Or who are your Must Read authors? The ones you line up at the door of Borders for the day their latest goes on sale? (For me? That would be anything by Susan E Phillips, Janet Evanovich’s Stephanie Plum series, Jennifer Crusie, Brad Meltzer, or George RR Martin.)

Oh yeah…the SHaQ Attack contest for this week is…

I’ve had one book, that I can think of anyway, with a medical professional as hero or heroine. It was back in my category days writing for Harlequin (to narrow it down.) It was also part of their Wrong Bed series. And yes, the whole answer is on my website. Send the title of the book and the name/job of the medical pro in the book to donna@donnakauffman.com with Seriously! in the subject line. I’ll draw a winner from the correct entries on Friday and that Blog Babe will get a copy of the winning book!

Have a great Monday!

(Is it Thursday yet? And will Dr McSteamy lose his grip on that towel? A girl can dream…..)

  1. Good morning!.

Well my Dodgers are in the playoffs and great news - my daughter and are going to game one of the Met-Dodger playoffs - and she is a Met Fan. It should be fun.

My autobuys are SEP, Catherine Anderson, Donna Whats her name - it slips my mind, Susan Mallery, Rachel Gibson, Diana Palmer, to name a few; sure I will come bck with more.

  2. Morning Donna!
My must see TV is LOST and NCIS (I love Mark Harmon).

I have several must buy authors (yourself included) but THE one author that I need to read is Nora. I just finished “Morrigan’s Cross” on Friday afternoon. I don’t like vampire stories - I would never read a vampire story - but guess what I read because Nora Roberts wrote it?!? You guessed it. And it was a great read!

  3. will my oak a’s are in the playoffs. let’s the games begin.

  4. Grey’s Anatomy
    Law and Order
    Survivor

  5. Must buys book wise are :Jennifer Crusie, J.D. Robb, and Janet Evanovich-not just the Stephanie Plums. As for must-see-tv: Law and Order, CI, CSI Miami, and HOUSE!!

  6. The Cardinals snuck into the play offs…I’m not sure exactly how(they are not having a very good season this year) but I’ll still be watching them try to win! No matter what I stick w/ my home town :)…And that means a lot if you have noticed the many ups and downs and downs of the St. Louis teams!!

    Must See: The Great Race!!

  7. Must see TV? Well, I have to catch them the first time because I don’t own a VCR or DVR (gasp!). I’m anxiously awaiting LOST to begin. I try not to miss Amazing Race or Dancing with the Stars.

I don’t have many must buy authors. I tend to go more book to book. However, I do auto buy Janet Evanovich’s Stephanie Plum series (and her other one… the new book comes out real soon), Maddy Hunter (a mystery writer) and Brenda Joyce (Deadly series)…. oh, and of course, the Harry Potter books.
