Survive this! An Idol goes home. And what’s cookin?
So, on Survivor we learn a few things… Amanda and Amie like to let the girls get some air while showering with Ozzy. Erik loves playing Ozzy Jr and is having a grand jungle adventure. Kathy? Not so much. At all. Ever. And I mean, ever. Really. Eliza has the biggest, saddest, I-hate-the-rain eyes ever. And who the hell are Natalie and Alexis? Do we know these two women? Have they shared more than a minute of airtime? Collectively? How odd to be this far in the game and have two relative strangers still playing.
In the end, Kathy loses it completely and begs her tribe to go home. She doesn’t even attempt to make it to Tribal Council (they hadn’t even done the immunity challenge yet, so there was no guarantee her tribe would even be at council.) Probst comes, talks to her, but in the end, she’s gone. First Penner, now this. It’s a real blow to a tribe that is already down a man to injury. A shame, but she was clearly totally shot. I know the recruiters can’t know how people are going to react to this kind of situation, but a shame another player was deprived the experience for someone who never seemed to get in the groove of it, along with Chet as well. The favorites have been great, but so far, the casting of these so called die-hard fans isn’t impressing me very much, with possibly the exception of Tracy, who is trying to play the game, but unfortunately behind the 8 ball almost from the time she hit the beach. It was also interesting to me, that James, who has zero patience for people who aren’t willing to give it their all, was totally respectful of Kathy’s decision. I think they all knew she was going cukoo for cocoa nuts from the very beginning. But it’s still really disappointing, especially when you know Penner would all but have given his right leg to be there.
On we go to Cirie, doing her thang, still love her, love watching her play the game. (If you read an interview with Yau Man, you’ll find out why she was so pissed at Penner. Interesting they didn’t show what was really behind it. Penner didn’t even know until he was out of the game. Cirie and Yau had a secret alliance, and when she caught Yau talking to Penner, she knew she’d been betrayed, so there was a reason for all that - a shame they didn’t show it.)
SO, on to Immunity Challenge. 6 members on each tribe. Lots of puzzles this season. Good camera work this season, too. Ozzy the Challenge God goes superhuman to win it for his team, but in the end, it’s Challenge Goddess Eliza (who has really rocked this season) who does it for her team and gives them a much needed break from losing any more people despite the fact this is their third immunity challenge win in a row.
Who goes home? Erik? Ozzy? We’ll see… it looks like it could be a double-layered blindside to get Ozzy out. That is, if they can make Erik get it. Me? I think it’s all for naught, too many scenarios at this point, and it’s going to end up being Tracy. Aaaand, I’m right. She tried her best to flip it, but didn’t pull it off. A shame, good player.
Next week? More injuries. Sheesh!
American Idol….who goes home? All kinds of Idol News, we learn we must endure more Pickler, but, eventually, we do get to actually putting someone in the bottom three. We find out Dolly Parton, Mariah Carey, Andrew Lloyd Weber, and Neil Diamond (squee!!!!) are named as mentors for this season. They talk about the final song contest (which, sorry, but that song last year tanked. Most Unmemorable Song Ever.) which they are apparently repeating this season. God, I hope it’s something more current. It can hardly not be. We must live through another Beatle medley. I find myself fast forwarding, but not until Jason and David C sing together. Sigh.
This night is important because after they dismiss one more singer, we have our Top 10, which are the ones who go on tour and cut the best hits cd. So…big night. For them.
Bottom three? Carly is the first shocker. Rilly, America? Sure, her outfits suck, but there are other singers who must go first. Kristy Lee, also in the bottom three and the only one I picked that ended up there. Rounding out the Silver Stools of Death? Amanda. Which means all the guys were safe tonight. That isn’t entirely surprising. Better be Kristy Lee going out. Let’s find out if I’m at least right with that much. Carly is freed up first. And wow, poor, poor Kristy is once again put through the agony of being second to last. Amanda goes out. No Amanda on tour. You guys get Kristy Lee instead. Wise choice? I don’t know, because I don’t buy tickets. But…is that a record number of times to be next to last, in a row, no less, and not go home?
So you have your top ten. I hope you’re happy. I am! All my boys are still in it.
More MAC! Top Chef time. Our Kiwi pulls out the Quickfire win where they had to buy only 5 indredients at a local farmers market and had 30 minutes to make their dish. Yay! Mostly, I am enjoying the fact that they are all talented and seem to be taking turns, thus far, showing their stuff and being in the spotlight. I was also a tad smug when Science Boy got dissed by the guest chef, who was in his same molecular field. I don’t care for Richard much, or couldn’t you tell. In the Elimination Challenge everyone works in teams, based on a zoo animal, they have to cook using their dietary regime. Team Vulture (not kidding) and Team Penguin (aww!) are the two finalist, with Crazy Andrew winnning for the Penguins. Team Bear and Team Lion are in the bottom, with Valerie thrown to the Lions for the loss. Didnt really want to see her go, but given two of their three dishes landed them there, I was glad it was her over last week’s winner, Stephanie, who I’m still liking.
Tomorrow, our Little Fierce One pops up on Can You Make Me A Supermodel. Now I might have to watch, dammit!
So…what is your take on all the happenings? Did you want Amanda gone so you could listen to Kristy Lee one more time? Are you sorry to see scheming Tracy out of the game, or can we just get down to the favorites already and make this the all star season it should have been? And do you wish you could taste all that amazing food on Top Chef?
5 Winners announced tomorrow, so don’t forget to play in this week’s SHaQ Contest. Details in Monday’s post. Also, congratulations to the winners of my books over on Dianne Castell’s Blog Party. Nice to see a blog babe in there!
Aaaaaaaand….DISH!

Donna I am so glad you do these recaps! I had class last night and couldn’t watch Idol and this is one season I wouldn’t mind actually watching. I haven’t really watched Survivor since the first season. I was a The Mole fan. Dang I hate that they cancelled that one.
Donna~
Can’t believe that I stopped by this week and forgot to wish you Happy Birthday. Hope you had a great day! and that it continues all year long. I’m looking forward to seeing the Fierce One tonight. Very shallow show but I still like it. Did you happen to catch our favorite Tim Gunn on Biggest Loser? I just love him.
Donna, wishing you a Happy Belated Birthday! Hope you have a great year!
Loved Survivor last night. Kinda sorry Tracey went home - I agree she wanted to play this game from the start, but was unfortunely stuck with the likes of Chet and Kathy. Hey, Kathy lasted longer than I would have guessed. I thought she was gonna quit the first episode. Loved James giving her a big hug - very touching. I enjoyed Cirie’s comments on Ozzy and Erik - too funny!
I felt Bad for Kathy but I was shocked to that she lasted this long.
Next week looks interesting.
Happy Belated bday Donna
Kristy must have a very special lucky charm! Survivor was terrific, one of the best seasons.
Kathy really pissed me off. Come on! what did she think she’d be doing there. And she wasn’t sick or hurt - what the heck!!!! I’m also surprised Cirie didn’t try to get Ozzy booted since he really is a threat and she voted off all the other ones she thought were in her way and obviously Tracy wasn’t one of them - go figure lol.
