Fashion do’s and just…no.

Well, I have no willpower, so I read all the Oscar news in the paper yesterday morning and as it seemed to be a rather underwhelming event, I didn’t feel compelled to watch it. However, that doesn’t hold true for the E! pre-show I TiFauxed. Mostly because, am I the only one who thinks watching Isaac Mizrahi interviewing stars is like watching two cars swerve toward each other at high speeds? You want to cover your eyes and flinch at the potential distastrous impact, but you can’t help peeking all the same. In Isaac’s World, we’re all divine, darling. I want to live in Isaac’s World.

So…mostly the women looked quite glam and stunning. Loved Keira Knightly’s necklace. So nice to see something other than diamonds (and possibly more valuable!) I just watched her in Pride and Prejudice. Loved the movie. Perhaps my most favorite telling of that book yet. MacFayden has the most soulful eyes, does he not? Anyway, where was I? Oh yes, fashion do’s. Lots of stunners. As for the What WAS Her Stylist Thinking? dresses, there weren’t that many, at least that I saw in my limited viewing. But the one I did see was the Bjork Swan Dress of the evening for me. (Okay, so maybe that’s an overstatement, but still…) And no, I’m not talking about Naomi Watts’ tangerine dream muppet dress, though it was an iffy choice for me. I’m talking about, yes, the Bow That Ate Charlize Theron! And she’s usually such a dependable glam goddess, too. I guess we all have to take our chances, but honestly, Charlize, you had that flown in special? You needed a second seat just for that bow. The dress itself was lovely…gorgeous construction. But if Santino had put that giant shoulderpiece on one of his dresses Michael and Nina would have bodily carried him off the runway as having finally lost it for certain.

Speaking of Project Runway (nice segue, doncha think?) this is the final week. So I’ll admit up front that I went online and found sites with pics of the lines the final three showed at Olympus Fashion Week. (Four if you count Kara, who had to show a dummy line so no one would know the exact final three.) I was really underwhelmed by all of the lines (Kara’s actually had the most focused point of view - I know, go figure - tho it still had some head scratching pieces.) But it’s taken the edge off my excitement over the finale. I know, serves me right for peeking. I’ll never learn.

Tonight though? More Raaaaaaaaaace! And more Phil and his Amazing Eyebrow. Can’t wait.

Oh…and a Miss Lemon update. She’s had a few panicky moments adapting to all new faces, but she’s had a lot to adjust to in a single 24 hour period and has done remarkably well. By last evening, she was quite calm and making conversational noises at Zazu, who responded like all males do to attention from a pretty girl and immediately showed off by climbing all the way to the top of his hanging play gym and swinging upside down by one foot. Some things are not species specific. She was marginally impressed.

Don’t forget to enter this week’s giveaway (see yesterday’s post for details.) The entries are coming in fast and furious - so join in!

  1. I wasn’t too keen on the bow dress either. Also I liked the song In the Deep from Crash better. I was also looking for Brendan Frasier, Jon Stewart said he was there when he was talking about the cast of Crash. I also liked the fact that the winners were more spread out.(a different one for best actress, actor and picture)
Jon Stewart will be compared to the previous hosts. There were a lot of expectations for him.

  2. I didn’t like the bow dress either or Naomi Watts’ dress.

I can’t wait for Race tonight and Project Runway tomorrow!

  3. not that cute, love george and jessica alba dress

  4. That bow dress was really off putting.

  5. I was really disappointed that people were making fun of Dolly Parton’s dress. It can’t be easy to find something to wear when you’re as well-endowed as she is. Plus her performance of “Travellin’ Through” was the best of the night. Maybe it’s just the country music fan in me, but I was really rooting for her.

I agree about that bow Charlize was wearing. It was huge! But, I thought Jen Garner looked amazing for a woman who only gave birth 4 months ago.

  6. Loved George. Who wouldnt. So glad he won. Would have liked to see him walk away with all 3.

Yes, I agree Dolly’s song was the best and I thought she looked great.

Loved Hillary Swank’s gown - simple, black strapless - elegant. Sandra Bullocks was very nice too. Didnt like that bow deal either on a few of them nor did I like Reese’s dress. It was better than what she wore to the Globe’s tho’.

  7. Didn’t notice it before…quite clever.

  8. Thank you, I could not have sead it better my self.
