MAC’n and SHaQ’n
First the MAC…
So, on Top Chef, they actually let the chefs cook without a lock of whackery on this season’s finale. Each chef did get a little sous help from some famous names, including my personal fave, Eric Ruppert. But, in the end, it’s all about them and how well they get the job done.
Surprisngly, Richard kind of shoots himself in the foot, and perhaps he’s right when he says he was overthinking things. He didn’t seem to have a solid plan going into things, so, even though his dishes were far from disasters, they didn’t rank as high as Stephanie’s, or, yes, Lisa’s. Sigh.
Lisa went full tilt Asian and Stephanie stuck with her rich, earthy, simply but tasty foods. In the end, both of these chefs impressed the judges panel. So much so that I spent a good part of the judges final table fearing that Lisa might actually win this thing. Quelle Horror! But, in the end, sane judges prevail, and Stephanie becomes the first female Top Chef and it’s an incredibly well deserved win. Bravo, Bravo, for putting together a pretty good season. Next up? Project Runway, starting mid July.
Okay, last night was also the first elimination on what is already the best season ever on So You Think You Can Dance. Wowza. I hate to see any of them go so quickly. However, I wasn’t far off on who my bottom three could be. Apparently I wasn’t the only one who didn’t think that Will and Jessica’s tango was All That as they landed there, as did Khourtni & Matt, and, much to my chagrin, Rayven and Jaime. I really felt the final disco pair, Gev and Courtney, deserved that final slot. Hopefully they make it through and get a later slotted dance time next week.
Oh, and we got the twisted mind of Wade Robson back on the stage. He’s like Tim Burton on crack, but I love this guy and his routines. This time the dancers have Nigel tied up in a chair while they taunt him. Truly. What’s not to love about that?
We find out that each week on the results show we’re going to have a special guest dancer, showcasing the world of dance. Tonight we get pop-lock innovators whose names are lost in the shrieking of the crowd. Fun to watch, but lets get on with the Dances of Doom, y’all. Yes, all six doomed dancers get to dance for their lives, and the judges then decide which guy and which girl to eliminate. And, I know I’m perverse, but I always kind of like it when pairs get split up and repartnered. There isn’t anyone thus far that I think is a total mismatch, so I’m not all as eager for this to happen this time around. Maybe later on. I’m reserving the right now.
Before seeing them dance, my prediction on who will go home is Rayven and Jamie, or possibly Matt, though I wouldn’t be upset if it’s Jessica. I think Will is totally safe and I think they like the oddball that is Khourtni. So, they all do their Dance O Doom and Rayven’s is a hot mess. Why didn’t she go full tilt ballet? What was that awful hybrid? And what the hell was she wearing? She looked incredibly schlumpy. I didn’t think Jessica’s dance was all that either. Looked more like a cheerleading routine. Khourtni acquitted herself well, however. On the guys side, yeah, Will ain’t going nowhere. Matt looked pretty good in his solo. Jamie looked desperate. I’d say Jamie and Rayven are in real trouble here, which is a shame as I’d much rather seem their enthusiasm and dance over, say Gev and Courtney, but then Gev/Court aren’t in the bottom three. And someone has to leave. In the end, it is as predicted and Rayven and Jamie depart. Matt and Jessica receive warnings. And Khourt and Will skate through.
Oh, and yes, I’m pretending the Pussycat Dolls don’t exist. What was that anyway?
Can’t wait until next week to see who gets to dance what and how it all turns out!!! What did you think?? DISH already!
Now for the winner of this week’s SHaQ Attack contest. Congratulations to Blog Babe Jade! Woo hoo, Jade!!
Tune in next week for more MAC, more SHaQ, and hopefully a lot less hot weather. (A girl can dream…..)

Congratulations, Jade!
Woo hoo, Stephanie! The judges had me worried for a little while there but they came through and named the rightful winner. I liked that the chefs got to cook without a huge twist thrown at them.
On ‘So You Think You Can Dance’ I wasn’t ready for any of them to go yet. Loved the opening number! I think this is going to be a great season!
Have a great weekend, everyone!
