SHaQ Attack Monday!

Okay, so you’re totally going to have to work for it this week. BUT! I’m going to be out of town all next week, so, after this Friday, no blogs will appear until my return on the 29th…which means we need to have TWO winners this week. Wahoo!

So, you’re Scavenger Hunt Question of the week is this: Tell me which one of my books spends a wee bit of time in Wales. 23rd century Wales, to be exact. Send your answer to donna@donnakauffman.com with “Back to the future” in the subject line. On Friday I’ll draw two names from the pot and announce them right here. Winners get free books from my website bookshelf.

In the meantime, tune in tomorrow for some Mole MAC . And, later this week there will be More MAC on So You Think You Can Dance, and the reunion show on Top Chef, where the fan favorite is announced. (Hmmm…..who will it be this year? I honestly have no idea.)

Books! For all you Austen fans out there, I read two books recently that both had interesting takes on the subject. Austenland by Shannon Hale is about a woman who is sent to Pembroke Park, a place where women get to indulge in their Austen Obsession for three weeks, complete with their own Darcy flirtations. Our heroine is obsessed with Darcy and Austen, to the point where her Austen expectionations are ruining her relationships. An elderly family member who knows of her secret obsession passes away and leaves her a trip to Austenland in her will. Our intrepid heroine decides she’s going to go and get Darcy out of her system, once and for all. Pretty cute book, not entirely what I was expecting. Good ending. The other one is Confessions of a Jane Austen Addict by Laurie Viera Rigler, about a woman who is also an Austen addict, who is actually transported back to 1816, into Austen’s Regency England, and, once she realizes she’s really there and not just hallucinating, must figure out a way to work herself through it and find a way back to her real life. If she wants to, that is. Really enjoyed this one.

Of course, these were supposed to be my in-flight reads next week. Guess I have another trip to Borders in my future. Poor me. :) What are you reading?

  1. Both of those books sound good. Enjoy your return trip to Borders! :)

  2. Hi, Donna,

Thanks for posting about my book Confessions of a Jane Austen Addict on your blog. I’m really happy that you enjoyed it, though I hope you found something else to read on the plane. Have a safe and fun journey to whichever place and time you’re going!

  3. Oh! I loved Austenland too! I was plesantly surprised since normally I shy away from anything Pride and Prejudice related other than actual Pride and Prejudice but since this author created totally new characters and a new plot, I really enjoyed it.

I read the fourth book in Lauren Willig’s Pink Carnation series this week, which has become my favorite of the 4. If you haven’t read this series, I highly recommend it :) Picked up the first for a plane ride and came home with the second.
