Cherry Blossom time…

One of the nice things about living in the DC Metro area is that every spring we have the Cherry Blossom Festival downtown. The local news stations and newspapers keep close watch on the heavily budded cherry trees that line the Tidal Basin, each trying to out-predict the other in when the peak blooming time will be.

Well, I’m hoping it’s this weekend, because that’s when I plan to head down and take in the gorgeous display. And, if the weather holds, maybe trek up to the National Zoo afterward and see the panda baby in action while he’s still a baby. I’ll be sure to share photos if all goes as planned!

So, last night on American Idol…was anybody surprised by who went home? I doubt it. A shame, because Lisa is a very strong singer. It’s just that, something about her performance prevents her from connecting with people. I think it’s because she’s been a stage performer in musicals for so many years (at the grand old age of 16) that she’s trained herself to play characters in a play, and now has no idea how not to “play” herself and just be herself. It was also her background training, however, that allowed her to handle her good-bye like the consummate professional she is. Bye, Lisa! Enjoy the Idols on Tour this summer!

As for the other two singers in the bottom 2…I’ll hazard a guess and say not many of us were surprised to see Ace there, as he’s been there before. He can bring the pretty all he wants, but it’s still not enough to compensate for the average singing with the majority of the viewers at home. Which I kind of like. It’s nice to see the more unconventional looking, yet fantastic performers get their due this season.

I imagine a lot of us, myself included, were surprised to see Katherine in the bottom three. Even more surprised that she was bottom 2 over Ace. I would have put Bucky in that spot first. She kept a brave face, but clearly it rattled her. Will make it interesting to see how she handles the added pressure next week.

Which is…country music! So I guess Kellie and Bucky can relax. Eliot, Chris, Mandisa and Paris? Hmmm, might be another interesting night!

Reminder! This is your last day to send in your PICK ME! entry for this week’s Friday Giveaway! See Monday’s blog post for the details.

  1. Donna,
I was a little surprised to see Katherine in the bottom three, but not Lisa or Ace. I think you were right last week, Ace’s “pretty” is even wearing thin. I hope they all do better next week. This week I was not very impressed. Country week should be interesting.

    Hugs, Zara

  2. I was really surprised to see Katherine in the bottom three. I figured Bucky would be there. None of them were really good the other night, but Katherine was definitely not one of the worst three.

I saw on the news that there is a site that encourages people to vote for the worst…I think Kellie is their pick since Kevin went home.

Next week will definitely be interesting. Like you said, Kellie and Bucky will have no problem, but I don’t know about the others.

I wish they would do Soundtrack songs again…they did it when Clay was a contestant and he sang “Somewhere out there.”

  3. I wish you were watching Lost. Last night’s episode? Oh. My. God. I can’t wait until next week.

  4. I thought that Chris or Bucky — with Ace — were going to be in the bottom three. Lisa took her dismissal with a great amount of maturity. That alone was impressive. She is very young. I have no doubt she will be seen and heard from again down the road.

You know I hate to admit that I agreed with Simon on anything. But with all the great country songs out there Kellie comes up with “Suds in a Bucket” because she thought it was “cute”. Um… not so much.

  5. Birdie - I am forced to admit that I tend to agree with Simon often. I don’t agree with his delivery of his opinion, but as far as thumbs up or down, I’m with him more often than not.

Jennifer - should be interesting! You know, I think both Chris and Eliot will probably find a country song that fits them. Taylor will have no problem. Even Kathryn will find something bluesy I bet. The ones I’m looking forward to (in a rubber necking kind of way) are Mandisa and Paris! Just to see what they pick. And I’m predicting a complete Ace trainwreck, but then that’s probably not much of a prediction there.

Jill - I will never watch Lost. You got me watching reality tv and look where that led me? I even started watching Las Vegas. But I don’t do scary, disturbed, tense stuff anymore. Not even Alias! Heck, I don’t even do CSI! But I’m sure you and the sixty billion others who watch it won’t miss me a bit. LOL Desperate Housewives and Boston Legal is about all I can handle these days. :)

  6. I didn’t mind seeing Lisa go, but I think there are others who should have been in the bottom three.

I absolutely L-O-V-E Lost! Last night’s episode left me wanting more…can’t wait until next week!

  7. Ooooh I love Las Vegas. Another show I love is Injustice! I was soooo upset when they moved Las Vegas to the same night and time. Now I have dvd/vcr’s going in 2 different rooms!
