Happy Tax Day! (Yes, I’m totally kidding. Shoot me now.)

So…let’s not talk about taxes and the IRS and how much I will owe them until I really am as old as dirt, k?

Let’s talk about something FUN! Like my new Friday Giveaway Scavenger Hunt Question! Just in case you didn’t get to hunt for eggs this weekend, I thought I’d give you something fun to hunt for today. With zero fat and no calories! Warning, it is a wee bit obscure. But that’s why you love me.

(Hey, I heard that!)

So, I just got the new Jennifer Crusie book in the mail - which she co wrote with Bob Mayer. Called Don’t Look Down it’s rather ground-breaking fiction, as Jenny wrote the heroine’s POV and Bob wrote the hero’s. I cannot wait to read this, but, alas, I am a final round judge in the RITA’s this year (Romance Writer’s of America’s highest honor, in case you’ve never heard of it. Our Oscar, as it were…) So I have a stack of books to read first, but this is next up when I’m officially done.

I heard about this book while reading an article on how Jenny and Bob came to write it, and in the article, they talk about how there is an alligator in the book who took on a life of her own (not to mention a few other lives as well) and has come to be a fan favorite.

I know you all are wondering how in the heck this has ANYthing to do with my contest this week. Well, as I’m reading the article, I’m thinking, “Hey, I once had an alligator as a character in a book, too!” A three-legged alligator, in fact. So, your mission, Blog Babe, should you choose to accept it, is tell me her name and what book she starred in. And a bonus book to you if you tell me which book this one was spun off of. (Ooooh, extra clue, extra clue!)

The answers can all be found on my website if you know where to look. The winner will receive one or both books (depending on if they got the bonus question correct.) Winner randomly selected from the correct answers and announced Friday morning.

Send your answers to donna@donnakauffman.com with “I Got The Gator!” in the subject line.

Good luck and happy hunting!

PS: If you want to double your pleasure, if not your fun, my homepage has been updated with new contest information posted. And I don’t even make you answer anything. Click the link in the right hand column and check it out!

  1. Donna,
I am looking forward to reading Don’t Look Down too! From everything I have read about it, the book sounds amazing. Thanks for the fun scavenger hunt (and for not voting me off the blog last week lol).

  2. Fun Scavenger hunt! I have never read a Jennifer Cruisie book, but have heard a lot about the new one. I might have to check out some of her work.

  3. You guys are good! :)

And Jennifer - you should definitely give Jenny’s work a look. Really fun reads.

  4. Any recommendation on what to start with Donna?

  5. There hasn’t been one of hers I haven’t enjoyed, so you really can’t go wrong in my opinion. If you like one, get them all. :)

Most recently I enjoyed Anyone But You (recently re-released in a small hardcover) and Getting Rid of Bradley. (I’ve craved Oreos and chocolate milkshakes ever since.)

A bunch of her titles are re-released category romances and I admit I have a real fondness for those. Manhunting and Charlie All Night were both fun (and both of the above titles fall into this category, too.)

Of her single titles, I loved Bet Me, and Fast Women. Crazy For You was fun, too.

Well, I’m going to list them all if I keep going. LOL Most of them are available in paperback now, so look over the back covers and see what story might appeal to you most. Go with that one. :)

Let me know if you get hooked. If you like Susan Elizabeth Phillips, I think you’ll enjoy Jennifer Crusie. (And vice versa - in case you haven’t tried SEP either!)

  6. Jennifer - Getting Rid of Bradley was the first Crusie book I’d ever read and it was what hooked me (bad dog). Bet Me won the RITA - if that’s any help.

Donna - I hope you’re going to do the play by play on Idol tomorrow night. For the first time in my memory we are having rolling blackouts and they are going to do them again tomorrow. With my luck, it will be during Idol so I may have to rely on you for my fix. LOL The music of Rod Stewart? Should be interesting since I too am as old as dirt *gg*

  7. Hi Eve - Yep! I had so much fun doing that last week, I planned to do it again. Thank god for TiFaux and that pause button, though!

As for Rod Stewart - I wonder if they’re going to focus only on “the standards” as he’s been doing of late, or if his entire catalog is up for grabs.

Come to think of it, I would have paid big money to see Kevin Covais do “Do You Think I’m Sexy?” But the thought of it being Ace, Eliot, Chris, or even Taylor…not so much, really. LOL!

Now, Chris finding a way to rock it out to Hot Legs could be fun!

You just know they’re going to do standards. No fun, people, no fun!

  8. From my understanding, I think its the entire songbook. Kevin singing Do You Think I’m Sexy? Don’t make me laugh that hard! And of course, now that I’m heading for bed, that’s the only song I have in my head. Gee thanks kiddo *gg*

Thanks - I may have to rely on you. Not a happy camper.

  9. Thanks for the recommendations! I will definitely try to check out some of her books. I bought my first SEP books a few weeks ago, but haven’t read them yet.

  10. I am reading Don’t Look Down right now, and am enjoying the adventure that comes from being co-written by an ex-Green Beret.

  11. Karen - in the article I read about them, Bob cracked me up, talking about learning the difference between writing guy action/adventure books and romance. He said something to the effect that in romance, people have sex and fall in love, whereas in his books, people have sex then someone usually dies. LOL!

I understand the reviews on this one have been pretty mixed, which makes me even more interested in reading it.
