Four for Four!

It’s a rare weekend when all my favorite teams win, but this was one of them. Gator Bowl Champs, Sugar Bowl Champs (both great games) and my two pro teams in the playoffs. Hoo-rah! And the best part was it took everyone’s mind off the ever encroaching mid-term exams. And gave us a great excuse to polish off the rest of the pie and all the leftovers in the fridge. (Like we needed an excuse.) Actually, the best best part was schools opened again today. :)

Rainy Tuesday here. Nice morning to snuggle up with a good book…or, in my case, write one. And hope it’s a good book that someone else will snuggle up with at some point. So, time to settle in and get some pages done. Thank you for stopping by and I appreciate the comments and well wishes. Alison, you da bomb!

Currently reading: One Night of Scandal by Teresa Medeiros. Love her!
Recently finished: Match Me If You Can by Susan Elizabeth Phillips, love her, too - loved this book!

There should be a law…

So, I’m not in traction. That’s the good news. Bad news is: Mountain - 1, Donna, 0. In other words, I didn’t quite make it to the back side trails. In my defense, it started to rain and no one was going back there. But in all honesty, I was more relieved than disappointed. Better luck next time! (Did I sound sincere just then?)

In other news…there should be a law. Yes, a law against giving children school projects over the holidays. I’m all for education and stimulating young minds, but when it puts me in the position of cracking the whip and being the bad guy for ten days that could otherwise be spent eating too much pumpkin pie and watching more than the legal limit of football, I say do we really need to make a wanted poster touting all the reasons why Frederick the Great should be considered a hero? I’m not so sure. Something to ponder as I get my pages done today.

Speaking of which, time to crack the whip over myself…there are pages to be written, and kick-off is in T-minus two hours! Is there any pie left?

Let the madness begin!

So I’m sitting in the ski lodge (because snow is, like, cold. And wet.) ….wondering what to write in my inaugural blog, aside from the standard Happy New Years wishes and “What are your resolutions this year?”queries. I have only one resolution at the moment - to do my best to post here every weekday. Advance warning: the topics will be wide ranging and possibly have nothing to do with writing. I’ll do my best to be occasionally amusing but make no promises to say anything remotely illuminating. We have Tony Kornheiser for that. (What, I’m the only one who reads the sports section?)

Maybe I do have another resolution…to conquer this mountain. I’ve skied the same two/thirds of it now for three years in a row. This year I want that last third, the one on the backside of the mountain, marked with all those little black diamonds. I want to keep up with my kids. With my oldest just accepted into college next year and my youngest a month away from jangling his car keys, I can’t pretend do it at home anymore. But I should at least be able to keep up with them on the slopes. Right? (It’s not nice to laugh.)

So I think I will wish for you all the opportunity to conquer your mountain this new year. Literally or figuratively, whatever it might be. I’ll let you know how I do with mine.

And oh yeah, Go Steelers! Go Skins! Go Hokies! Go Mountaineers! (There is no rule saying you can only have one team. I looked it up.) The slopes beckon…if I don’t post tomorrow, it’s because I’m in traction. (See? Handy excuses already….)

HAPPY NEW YEAR!
