Friday Giveaway Part 2 (and 3!)

Well, clearly I am more brain dead than I thought. Thanks to a much sharper Blog Babe, I was reminded that I promised three winners this week, not just one.

So put your hands and ice cream spoons together for Karen T and Lis!! Woo hoo!! Both will also receive a book of their choice from my website bookshelf.

And Jennifer Y - because you were so sweet about letting me know, you get one, too. :) Just email me your choice and an address and it will be on its way.

Have a great weekend everyone!

Friday Giveaway and buh bye, Aleks!

So, I’m sorry, but you’re lucky to even have any MAC today. I’m still rewinding and watching Dmitry’s solo. That? Was smokin’ hot. Smmmmokin.

Agreed on sending Aleks home. I think Jaymze should have gone over Ben. Especially since pairing poor Dmitry with his third partner in three weeks, it would have been nice for him to get someone with training. Instead, he gets Ashlee. He has really bad partner juju. And I fear he’ll be in the bottom three again. But he gives great solo, so I’m somewhat selfishly happy about that probability.

Finally they had a singer on who didn’t lip synch and gave a good performance to boot. Didn’t FF through that one. A real switch for me. Nigel’s lambast at the end was well deserved by some of the dancers, but hypocritical given they praised Allison for her impromptu routine earlier in the season. Still, shaking them up a little probably didn’t hurt.

Looking forward to next week!

Now, it’s Friday Giveaway time….this week’s winner is Maureen E! Congratulations, Maureen. You’ll receive the book of your choice from my bookshelf. Tune in Monday everyone for a new SHaQ Attack!!

Have a great weekend. :)

I’m back and the dancing is hot!

So…orientation was fantastic. One of the better days I’ve spent. We had a marvelous time and my college student was both impressed and impressive. Can’t ask for much more than that. Well…I could have asked for a better roommate (no, not my son, another parent…oy, yet another downside of being a single parent…) but we’ll save that for another day. When I’ve recovered from the snoring….and the hacking….and the wheezing….

Instead, let’s talk about dancing!

Some Thursday morning MAC, as promised…

So, Cat opens the show by introducing a mostly shirtless, hip swiveling Dmitry and, you know, some other random dancers. Did I mention he was shirtless? And swiveling? Welcome home, me!

These kids are all insanely talented. So much fun to watch.

For once Cat is not wearing some mutant animal print, we get ruffles instead. But they are blue ruffles, paired with a yellow belt and I am totally taking this as a Mountaineer shout out! Woot!! Go WVU!

And tonight we have four judges…Nigel (the wanker), Mary Murphy (ballroom), and Cicely/Alisa (hip hop)… Fun to have some fresh blood in the judges table. Anyway we can get Nigel out of there for a week? No?

We really (really!) need to get rid of the deja vu Moments Of Past Humiliation. Once was already more than enough. Let it go, Nigel.

Behind the scenes with our dancers was far more interesting. You don’t really think about what it’s like to have the camera guys there - and especially that crucial first day of learning something completely new (and in most cases, completely foreign as a dance style, too.) Like I said, these kids are really talented…add to that the pressure, the long hours, the in-your-face cameras, etc, and it’s really pretty amazing how well they hold up.

I’m totally loving Benji. Such a good spirit. I smile every time he’s on camera. Sunshine, he is.

Our appetizer performance this week is a trio of Lindy Hop dancers - I was really hoping to see this one during the season. Maybe we will. The guys costumes couldn’t be more unattractive and unflattering, but they were all great fun to watch.

Ben (contemp) and Ashlee (popper) are first up and they get hip hop….Finally! They get a discipline at least one of them is familiar with. About time. But now they really have to perform. No excuses this week. They get Todd Sams as a choreographer and Ben is so not a funky white boy, but he definitely gives it his all.

Here we go…to Caught Up by Usher. Ashlee comes out poppin’ her thang like she knows what to do wit it. Ben? Not so much. He does try, bless his white bread heart, but clearly, this is not his element. The judges will have a field day with him. A shame, because Ashlee is totally in her zone. But you find yourself watching awkward Ben more (trainwreck potential.) And, rewatching it, Ashlee wasn’t actually that strong either. I wonder if she toned it down so not to outplay Ben too much. Didn’t work too well for Jason last week. I don’t think I’d go with that strategy. (Okay, and Ben swiveling? Please. Don’t.) He looked exactly like what he is - a contemporary dancer pretending to be a hip hop dancer.

Judges? Fair judging on both parts. Nice to hear.

Next up…Ryan and Heidi. They get Cuban rumba. Alex de Silva is the choreographer. Heidi picks it up quickly, Ryan struggles a bit more. The duo needs more chemistry and I still don’t see it. These two have lacked that from the beginning. Perhaps Ryan will go and Heidi will get a more suitable partner. Here they go to Ruma Del Solar. Heidi looks great. The music seems too slow, but they both do well. Ryan does very well actually. When the music picks up, they do even better. It’s an unusual dance style, not sure I really like it, but I think they both nailed it. Faked chemistry, but better faked than usual.

Judges? Nigel loved it and pulls a Full Mary and Cat has to reign him in. Mary continues the love fest. Cicely/Alisa add on.

Now, YAY, Dmitry! Oh yeah, and Aleksandra. Actually, I’m excited to see how these two do. The Russians are coming! They get the waltz. Which, latin ballroom dancer Dmitry can probably handle. Hopefully Aleks can get her head out of her butt and actually try this week. They get Heather Smith (initially shown dancing with a guy, who, I’m sorry, but ahahahahahahahahahaa) Ahem… Dmitry is very supportive of Aleksandra and seems sincerely happy to be working with her. Hopefully his confidence will carry over to her. Clearly he’s into it (hey, Aleksandra, you get to do the Dance of Love with Dmitry? Did you SEE him with his shirt off? Swiveling? For the love of god, take advantage here!)

They dance to If I Were a Painting by Kenny Rogers. (WHAT????) Okay, I’m keeping an open mind here. They both look lovely. Okay, she’s in a yellow something or other that looks sprayed on and very sexy. Dmitry is in a black suit, very dapper. Aleksandra dances beautifully, though I don’t get the feeling she’s connecting with him personally, just through the dance itself. Dmitry, however, is totally focused on her. (Lucky wench.) The footwork gets a little off at times, but they are a lovely couple. An improvment for both over their previous partners for certain. I had her pegged to go next. Now, not so much. But only because he saves her.

Judges… Well, crud. We had a storm and apparently signal, so I lost the judges reaction to this AND the entire performance of the next couple, as the signal comes back in with Nigel’s response to Ivan and Allison’s routine. I’m SO not happy right now!!

I have no idea what they just danced, but Nigel loved it. (Really. Not. Happy. right now.) They all go on and on abot how it was one of the best ever????? And I MISSED IT???? That’s just cruel, y’all. Cruel. Man. Somebody fill me in.

Donyelle and Benji are next and there’d better not be any signal loss! They get pop/jazz. I’m guessing something Bob Fosse-ish. Oh cool, they get Brian Friedman and he cut all his curls off!! He’s very leprechaun-like now. Hmmm. But I love his style of dance, so this should be fun. I was wrong on the Fosse. He’s saying Madonna/Britney/Paula music video style. Should be interesting. I think they’ll nail it. They have such a good time together. I love that Benji understands exactly who he is and has fun with it, but does his best to be what he needs to be for his partner. Donyelle is a good foil for him and keeps him grounded. One of the better pairings in this competition. Who’da thunk it? This should be good.

Dancing to Put the Needle On It… Love love love Donyelle’s hair and the whole thing. Benji is great and so obviously into her. Loved loved loved the whole thing. The end move was fantastic. They are so much fun to watch and clearly pros. Dang, this is a tough week, y’all and I didn’t even see all of it!

Judges…Nigel says they are true partners. Totally agree. Mary goes with it. Cicely/Alisa give props.

Next is Natalie and Musa….man, is it getting hot in here or what? They get quick step. Bru-tal, y’all. Brutal. They get Heather Smith. And she works them hard. It’s amazing what Musa has pulled out of himself, untrained as he is. We’ll see what he does this week.

Here they are with Zoot Suit Riot (yay, love that one) and we’re off. They both look wonderful and Musa has really made some amazing changes in how he can carry himself now. He looks wonderful here and totally goes for it. Natalie looks great, too. Is it their element? No. Considering that, this is an A+ routine. Natalie actually messes up more than Musa, and he does his best to keep her on track. By far not the best routine of the night, but major brownie points for difficulty.

Judges - Nigel gives them their due and I appreciate that he makes note of how far they had to come to manage it at all. Mary tries to find nice things to say. Cicely/Alisa follows track.

And now we get Jessica and Jamyz. They get contemporary. And leprechaun Brian as their teacher. This could be fun. I’m ambivalent about this couple (who he nicknames Jessie James. How cute.) He gives them a story - a love story. Which Jamyz is totally not into - so insulting as he rolls eyes while holding on to his partner. Thanks, dude. And damn, Brian, telll us how you really feel. What is up with these people? No love here. At. All. I hope they prove themselves all wrong and do something special.

They get Let Go by Frou Frou and here we go. I liked the jungle gym opening. I loved how Brian used the stage for them. Very nice look to that whole sequence. I think they did the dance beautifully, individually…but together I’m not sure I felt the intensity that Brian wanted. But it was very pretty to watch.

Judges? Nigel enjoyed it like I did. Mary follows. Cicely/Alisa say it was goin’. Which is a good thing.

Last up….Travis and Martha. They get hip hop, which is a Martha discipline and having watched Travis on the opening numbers, I doubt he’ll have ANY problem with this. Should be a slam bang finish on a great night. They get Todd Sams. Travis is such a little dance freak. Love him. Martha is in her zone. Travis tells Todd he’s tired of them beating on each other every week, which they have been and he wants some Martha lovin’ this week. Cracked. Me. Up. He’s so much fun. I can’t wait to see this. Hurry!!

To Just Fine by Chris Brown….here we go!! That? Was perfection. She was all phenomenal legs and he’s just too cute for words. Loved. It. Pros. Totally.

I’m going on record right now - it’s going to come down to these two, and Benji and Donyelle. Everyone else, even My Dmitry, is playing for second.

Judges? Nigel didn’t think they were good tonight? What is he smoking? He makes valid points, but harsh, dude. Way too harsh. I loved it. (And Ivan and Allison did Argentine tango??? And did it well? And I missed it? Rrrrrrrr.) Mary is more impressed, but she wants more, too. Cicely/Alisa says they got it, but it wasn’t cohesive. Hmm. I still really really liked it. Sue me.

I have absolutely no idea who will be in the bottom three. It was really a good night. I SO wish I’d seen Ivan/Allison. Dangit! If I had to pick, I’d say Musa/Natalie, Jamyz/Jessica and…I dunno. That’s all I got. Maybe Heidi/Ryan, but only because they have no real chemistry with each other, despite dancing well individually. Better not be Travis and Martha, that’s all I can say.

Well see tonight!

Crazy week…

No Treasure Hunter MAC this morning, I’m afraid. Between the roads flooding, the power being very dicey and my dogs going crazy because they aren’t getting their walks in…things in Casa del Kauffman have been ever so much fun of late. Except, you know… not really.

Today, I get to travel west with my oldest son (where it is also raining) as we embark on college orientation. (Go Mountaineers!!) Tonight I get to experience the thrill of campus life by sleeping in an unairconditioned dorm and eating cafeteria food. (I know, the fun never stops for me.)

Alas, because of my college trek, there will be no blog tomorrow, as I will have to leave my right arm (aka laptop) at home. I will, however, return in time to make it up to all of you with a hunka hunka burning So You Think You Can Dance w/ Dmitry MAC come Thursday morning. (That is too the title of the show. Well, it is for me. :) )

In the meantime, don’t forget to enter this week’s Friday Giveaway. You can’t possibly go wrong as there is no SHaQ. See yesterday’s blog for details on how to enter. I will draw three winners this Friday morning who will each receive the book of their choice from my website bookshelf. (Feel free to browse anytime…link to the bookshelf is in the column to your right. Click on any bookspine to read more…)

I hope you are having a sunny Tuesday where it has been rainy, a rainy Tuesday where it has been dry, a cool Tuesday where it has been hot, and a hot Tuesday where….well, wherever Dmitry is dancing. :)

Until Thursday…Ciao, Blog Babes!

Rainy days and Mondays…

So, it’s flooding here. No, I’m not kidding. Fortunately, not my house, but it’s been an interesting 24 hours to say the least, and it’s not over yet. The good news is… you all luck out! No SHaQ Attack this morning, just a regular old Friday Giveaway.

Send email to donna@donnakauffman.com with Rain, rain go away! in the subject line and on Friday I will draw three lucky names from the batch of entries. Winners will receive their choice from my bookshelf.

Hope it is sunny and delightful where you are!

Friday MAC and an Attack winner!

First, the MAC….. For all that I detested the “pre-season” of this show, I’m absolutely loving the program now that we’ve begun. What a great group of dancers this year.

Observations…

I like Cat’s dress. But the supermodel hair has to go.

The opening numbers on the results show, both last night and last week, were top notch. Way to go, Dan on choreography. You have to rewatch to see it all. And the camera work is better this year, too.

Benji has now totally sealed my love - did you notice when all the couples were standing, guys behind girls, as they waited to hear who was in the bottom three…he was stroking Donyelle’s arms in a sort of soothing motion. Awwww. Yeah, he’s one of the Good Guys.

So! On with the results!

The performance review with Hostess Cat is too rudundant after just seeing highlights of last week. I felt this last week, too. I know she has to build the suspense, but something needs to be fixed here. At least she went faster this week.

I still wish we could vote for every single contestant, though I know that’s a lot of people, and they could pull just the bottom three girls, and bottom three guys, not necessarily as couples. At least this season, as they dance permanently together, it is slightly more fair as they are supposed to support their partner’s weaknesses. Last year it was just plain cruel.

Group 1 - Jamyz and Jessica are safe…Ben and Ashlee are safe…so that means Dmitry and Joy are in the bottom three. Joy truly deserves to be there, but they’d better not boot Dmitry!!

Group 2 - I liked all three of these couples, so boo hiss if one is in the bottom - Travis and Martha, Benji/Donyelle, and Musa/Natalie are ALL safe. Damn straight! At least they’re getting one thing right.

Group 3 - Jason and Aleksandra are in the bottom three (Aleksandra is the one here, too, who put them there, Jason won’t deserve the cut…which means…) Ivan and Allison are safe - which surprises me. I thought maybe Ivan was the one to go this week. So Heidi and Ryan are in the bottom three. I thought they were a middle of the pack couple, so this is disappointing, but not entirely shocking.

Who would I pick from these three? Joy is the no brainer for the girls, but if Aleksandra went, it wouldn’t be a surprise. I think she is next. From the guys? Brutal cut here. It looks like they have set up the other ballroom dancer, as they did Stanis last week, and if they cut him, no one gets re-paired. I would like to see both of these things happen. (I wanted Ivan to go home so Dmitry would get Allison!) So…Ryan maybe? Not Jason. But I fear it will be the hunka hunka Russian. Sigh. Nigel, you wanker!

Solos…Joy was predicatble. Perfectly good, but less mature than her counterparts. Dmitry. Dude, what ARE you wearing? Sigh. I can see the future now, and it’s not pretty. Well, there will be a lot less of the pretty when Dmitry goes home. Which I fear he will. And, I hate to say, deservedly so after that. Heidi is a little–okay, a lot manic– but in a latin ballroom way that keeps you watching (I wanted to FF through Joy’s performance.) So, better than Joy, but hard for the ballroom people to do solos, I think. A bit unfair. I wish they could pull a partner for their solos, much the same as they did during auditions. You aren’t really seeing them in their specialty without a partner. But she put her all into it. (That split? Youch.)

Ryan is up and he’s entertaining, but I’ll admit contemporary/lyrical is my least favorite. Still, better than Dmitry. Sorry, Big D! Now it’s Aleksandra who gives a more mature performance than Joy, but it’s not good. Not good. And her post performance interview was lackluster and she didn’t look at the judges at all. So….who knows. Last up is Jason. Who, as suspected, being the only street dancer, brings the house down. I wasn’t all that keen on the perfomance, thought it was loose and sloppy and amateurish really (and those red boxing shoes? Just…no.) But I doubt he’ll go home…still, I can see him and Aleks off soon.

Of course, I’ve been wrong before. And this is only the second show.

All the solos are done, but I think the producers made their decisions when the votes were tallied. Rhianna was a definite improvement over Nelly Furtado last week (where did my Nelly go?) but can we all say lip synch? Possibly just as well. She needed better dancers. I’d almost rather them fill the “judges deliberation” time (yeah, like they really need it) with more things like Ryan and Hawk’s SickStep Crew. More dancing, less singing!

So, we see Mia pleading her case backstage with Nigel. Nigel, who made it clear during the auditions that, as executive producer, he has the final say in who goes home no matter what the other two judges say any given week. (Did I mention the whole wanker thing? Truly.)

Mia doesn’t look happy, but they are back and…drum roll…the girl who goes home is? Joy. So they got that right. (And glad they told Aleksandra how shaky her ground is.) And….peeking through my fingers…the guy is… Jason. Mia saved my guy!! Smooches, Mia!

A shame to see any of the guys go this week. There really was no good answer here. Now that means Dmitry gets to work with Aleksandra - the next to worst dancer compared to the partner that just left. Cruel, really. (And did you catch just how enthused she was about that? I know she hates to lose her partner, but put on the professional smile, A. Dmitry did, and you know he’s a hell of lot less happy with you than you have a right to be with him. Step up.) Poor D - I see another trip to the bottom three for him. So wrong.

Cannot WAIT until next week! :)

OKAY! On with this week’s SHaQ Attack winner. Everyone who played got the answer right - Devin Archer in The Royal Hunter was one of my Aussie heroes. No one got the “tough one” - which was understandable. Waaaaay back in the early Loveswept days, Reese Braedon in Wild Rain was my wild Aussie hero. (Same book as the three legged alligator from a previous SHaQ hunt.) That one was my “two people locked in a closet during a hurricane” book. Great fun!

The winner of the book of her choice from my bookshelf, along with a copy of Wild Rain AND Royal Hunter, is….Zara!!! Woo hoo! Congrats, Zara!

Tune in again on Monday for the next contest question. Hope you all have a fantastic weekend! :)

MAC (n’ some cheese….)

The cheese is Big Brother All Stars. I know I should be more excited about this. I love this sick train wreck of a show. For some reason, watching them introduce the potential houseguests last night….I wasn’t feelin it. I want new people. New season. I don’t miss these people enough to want to watch them do this all over again. And I thought I would.
Hmmm…..

So we’ll MAC on some good stuff instead, like the dancing on last night’s So You Think You Can Dance. I think all of them are great in some way and last night each of the couples really came through - even the ones who were a bit rocky, also had the biggest learning curve and I was impressed by how well each of them adapted to such foreign dance styles.

My favorite, which surprises me given my so-so feelings about him pre-season, was Benji. He and Donyelle are really a great team and this guy is such a pro, with both dance skills and attitude. I thoroughly enjoy watching the two of them, on and off stage. A pure joy.

I also really enjoy Travis. Martha is a bit more generic to me, but I like the two of them together and I think he’s such a skilled dancer, but also seems to have a real professional demeanor as well as a good sense of humor about himself and the whole process.

In fact, all of the couples seem to be really dedicated and keeping their heads about themselves. I like them all to some degree.

Yes, even Ben and Ashlee. They’ve been the most hammered couple yet, two weeks in a row without a dance style either of them favors. I was impressed by how well they came through with the jive last night. I am not a Ben fan, but the boy put it out there. And Ashlee did, too. I have to admire that.

Musa and Natalie - whew baby! I was impressed with just how much he’s growing, given he’s never been classically trained as a dancer. And I love the bond between these two. That they’re smokin’ hot don’t hurt em any either.

I am officially liking that they are all paired for the duration of the show. I guess the shock will come when they boot off two people who aren’t already paired with each other, leaving their partners to join up. That will be very interesting. I’m anticipating that, too. Best of both seasons that way.

The guys all really brought it last night. (Dmitry? Yum. That is all.) His partner? Not so much. I think Joy should be the one taking a hike tonight, but they better not pull a Stanislav on Dmitry or I’ll not be a happy dancing camper. (Remember Stanis danced just fine last week, too - so it could happen.)

There was something to enjoy in each couple’s performance last night, and often the weakest of the night was paired with a strong dancer (see above) so there were no horrible duos, just not as good performances by some of the dancers.

My bottom three for this week -

Joy and Dmitry - only because Joy really is the weakest dancer on the show and it’s the only way to vote her off. I hate that Dmitry goes on the block with her though.

Ivan and Allison - I like Ivan, think he’s cute. And Allison certainly did her best, but overall I was more lukewarm to their performance than the others. They seem less mature than some of the other partnerships, and although hard workers and fun to watch, just not as up there on the food chain as some of the other pairings. Not their fault, they’re just young.

Aleksandra and Jason - another strong/weak pairing. A shame Jason had to tone down his dance skills (though I agree with why they had him do so) only because, selfishly, I’d like to see him do more. But Aleksandra is a step away from Joy on the “needing to go” list.

Ryan/Heidi might also find themselves in the bottom - but although I agree that, like Ivan/Allison, they were a more generic (though good) performance, I think the two of them collectively have more to offer and should stick around longer. And I want Ben/Ashlee to stick around, too - if for no other reason than at least one of them should get to dance in a style suitable to their background.

That leaves Jessica and Jamyz (yep, that’s how they spelled it last night. Weird.) as the only couple I haven’t MAC’d on. I really enjoyed their performance and also think they have enough to offer that they should stick around. Sort of middle of the pack for me, like Ryan/Heidi. But I’m curious to see what else they can bring.

I enjoyed Shane Sparks last night (though I thought he was off base with his jive comments, making it more about the style than their performance. He disappointed me in that.) I also liked Mia’s more hard hitting criticism. Doesn’t make her popular, but she’s truly trying to help the dancers. Just hard to do in front of millions of people and be rewarded for the effort, but I’m glad she sticks to her guns and doesn’t just make it a love fest. But that she also doesn’t make it a bash fest just for the sake of bashing. She’s clear about why, and what they need to do. Nigel is all over the place and though not entirely evil, I just don’t like him. Smarmy wanker.

Oh! And how great was it that they had the SickStep Crew on? Loved that! Loved. It was great seeing Ryan again, and in his element with is boys. I was just wondering why Hawk didn’t join them. That was really disappointing. Great opener to the show.

I think this show has found a really great balance between performance and backstage footage - they keep it all about the dance. (Last Comic Standing - really, pay attention. No, really.)

Can’t wait to see how tonight works out!

Reminder!! It’s the last day to find one of my Aussie heroes and enter this week’s drawing for a free book. See Monday’s blog post for all the details and good luck!

Party’s in Dallas…

But Miami is the one hosting it! WOOT! Much to my amazement, the Mav’s didn’t take home court advantage and run away with it last night. I fully expected this to be my Friday morning column, not today…but I’ll take it!! Way to go, guys. First NBA title and a very, very well deserved MVP trophy for the absolutely amazing Dwayne Wade. What a season. Can’t wait for the next one.

I also wanted to thank my guest blogger, Jill Shalvis again, for dropping by yesterday and entertaining us. Most especially for getting all of us to spend the day thinking about hot men. I knew I liked her for a reason. (Clive? Call me.)

So, I’m torn, y’all. (Not about hot men. Although there are so many of them to contemplate…) Anyway, where was I? Oh, right. Television programming. Summer hasn’t exactly been stupendous in the programming department so far…so what do they do? They cram all kinds of potential reality show goodness into one night. So You Think You Can Dance has finally heated up, so sure, why not match it up against that train wreck we all love to hate, the season premiere of Big Brother. And then throw in the talent show that, to be honest, I might have to wait until it’s actually down to finalists to watch, but still. AND it looks like Treasure Hunters is on again. Toying with us, I tell you. Toying. I can only take so much of this. (And last night? Other than a really great NBA final, we had Last Comic. Which fell on its sword last week by picking “personalities” over actual, you know, funny people. Why not program something against that? But nooooo.)

So, I have no idea what tomorrow’s MAC will be…I’m only one person. I have only so much MAC in me. It could just be me having a total reality show meltdown, you just don’t know.

Oh! And don’t forget to play this week’s SHaQ Attack. So far, everyone is doing pretty good with it, but don’t be shy. The answer (at least one of them anyway) is on my website. You don’t have to dig too far. So far you’ve all found the same answer…I’ll be interested to see if anyone knows who the other Aussie hero is. That one is a bit tougher. Aussie guys weren’t as clearly a marketing asset back then to the promo department, so that one would take some real digging. But you only need one right answer to be in the running for the book of your choice. So give it a go, mate!

Happy Hump Day, everyone. Congratulations, Heat!!

Guest Blogger!!

In keeping with the Aussie theme this week (what? You haven’t heard? Well check out yesterday’s blog post for this week’s SHaQ Attack book giveaway!) I invited pal and AUSSIE RULES author, Jill Shalvis to guest blog. Take it away, Jill!

Hi Everyone! Today’s topic? Lust.

Well, it’s a damn good thing I’m a romance author. It gives me a façade for lusting after my favorite TV heroes. This way, when I’ve got my tongue hanging out over Jack Bauer or House or Jack AND Sawyer on Lost, or any of the drool-inducing guys on Grey’s Anatomy, I have an excuse. Research. That’s right people, I expect you to at least pretend to believe I’m ga-ga eyed over these men for research, in order to absorb their hunkiness and impose such hunkiness on the heroes in my books.

That’s my story and I’m sticking to it.

And the truth is, I’m not that picky. Take for example, my odd affinity for Brian Austin Green, Freddie Prince’s best friend on Freddie. The guy’s character is a leach, a mooch, and yet . . . don’t judge me . . .inexplicably sexy. Crazy, I know.

Or Danny on Vegas! Man slut. And yet, he flashes that naught smile and I’m goners. Wait, maybe I’m the slut . . .

Oh and I LOVE House. NO idea why. The guy is a sarcastic, cynical asshole, and yet . . . can’t get enough of him.

My husband is a bit amused by all this. He thinks his loftier viewing choice of the NBA excludes him from being a fellow TV addict. Ha! I recently commandeered the remote for a week (conveniently hiding it in the bottom of the fruit drawer in the refrigerator — that sucker’ll never see the light of day). Thus robbed of his beloved basketball, an odd phenomenon occurred. He got as hooked on TV as me. But he’s watching an entirely different gender, starting with Eva Longoria and ending with Nikki Cox . . .

Too bad he’s a general contractor not a romance author because I am damn sure not buying HIS “research” plea . . .

Who are your objects of lust? Come on, share, dish, contrast/compare… You can never have too many.

SHaQ Attack Monday!

So…Treasure Hunters was pretty good. For us Amazing Race Blog Babes, we might have found ourselves a summer replacement. Keeping fingers crossed! Maybe we’ll get some MAC in this week.

Thanks for all your well wishes on my son’s graduation. It went beautifully. I’m officially the mom of a college freshman! Ack!

So, now on to the really important stuff! This week’s SHaQ Attack!

Well, since my best pal, Jill Shalvis’s latest , Aussie Rules, is gracing the shelves, I thought I’d make this a Down Under SHaQ, just for grins, mate!

I’ve written about more than one Aussie hero over the years…name just one of them, and the book he’s in, and if your name is drawn Friday morning from the pile of correct guesses, you’ll win your choice from my bookshelf!

Just send an email to donna@donnakauffman.com with “Crikey!” in the subject header. (No, my heroes have never used that word, promise! :) )

Good luck!

(And…you know, I’ve resisted, but it is SHAQ Monday after all…and I’m weak from all those heart palpitations. :) Gotta say, though I agree the Stackhouse suspension was wrong in so many ways, way to pull one out of the dumper there, Miami! Dwayne? Way to go, breaking the free throw record. You’re worth every penny they pay ya! (Sorry, Dirk!) And Josh? When you only have one time out left, dude? Come on, what did you think Avery wanted you to do? Just sayin’. )

Happy Monday, everyone!
