Technically, it’s still Friday!

Whew! Okay, so I’m barely in under the wire, but here is my own little Result Show for this week’s SHaQ Attack contest. This week you had it so easy you should be ashamed, and yet, still enter, because FREE BOOK! Right? And I’m proud to say the blog babes didn’t let me down. But there can only be one winner….and that would be? Diana! WOO HOO!!!

I hope everyone has a fabulous weekend. Keep fingers crossed that everyone in my family can continue to stay in one piece and out of various medically minded places of business and we can get back to the more serious and important issues concerning blog babes everywhere - yes, of course I’m talking about The Mole MAC! What did you think I meant? And more So You Think You Can Dance…NOT! recaps as well!! I think next week we actually get to the Good Dancer’s Only part. Yay us! Oooh, and if I’m totally not insane by then, maybe even some Top Chef finale MAC…..because, three women! In the finale! Okay, okay, so one of them is Lisa, and therefore technically doesn’t count, but still! We could finally have a female Top Chef. Go Stephanie!

And Go Blog Babes! Thanks for all the support. You guys rock. And roll. See you Monday. :)

Party Pooper…

I’m sorry to have to say, but due to some unforseen family stuff, I won’t be able to blog for the remainder of the week. I will post the SHaQ Attack contest winner on Friday, so check out Monday’s post to find out how to enter. And, all things being equal and I haven’t run off to Fiji, I’ll return to full blogging glory next week, where we will having dancing, cooking, and The Mole is back!! Wahoo. :)

Please feel free to dish in my absence. Party on, Garth!

Welcome back!

It’s a short week this go around, so I’m taking it easy on ya! For this week’s SHaQ Attack contest, all you need to do is send an email to donna@donnakauffman.com with Seriously, pick me! in the subject line. Winner gets a free book and will be announced in Friday’s blog!

Good luck!

So You Think You Can What?

Hi Cat Deeley! So You Think You Can Dance is baaaaaaack! This week, we’re in LA for auditions. And while we had our obligatory nightmare on stage street aspect, they showed a fair number of good to great to downright wow dancers. I liked Twitch last year, so am very glad he’s back this year. He seems to have matured a lot. Fun guy. That last guy was freaky squared. He’s like triple jointed. Yikes. Looks to be a good season!

Okay, winners of this week’s Finale Bonanza SHaQ Attack Contest! I asked you to vote for the winners of Dancing With The Stars and American Idol, two chances, two winners. Kristi won DWS, and David Cook won idol. If you voted for either of them, your name went in the pile for the two drawings. And the winners are? For DWS…..Lily D! For Idol…..Laura J! Woo hoo!! Congratulations!

Hope everyone enjoys their holiday weekend! I’ll see you back here Tuesday. Stay safe. :)

Now that? Is a finale.

Well, if they had to make it two hours, at least we got some prime filler in addition to the fluff. Hi SYTYCD Dancers! Hi Mike Myers! Hi Top 12 Singers! Hi Seal! Hi Donna Summer! Hi Bryan Adams! Hi Marissa in the audience! Hi former Idols! Hi Chikezie, MJ, and Our Favorite Woodland Forest Creature! (Nice job on Hallelujah, bro.) Hi David Cook and ZZ Top! My night is officially good. Hi Graham Nash! Hi Jonas Bros! (What are they, twelve?) Hi Pat!! Hi Reynaldo and USC Marching Band! (No, seriously. I coudln’t make that up.) Hi One Republic! Hi Jordin of the really unfortunate gold dress! (I’m not sure the world needs Zohan and the Love Guru…) And….um, hey Digital Gladys Knight and your very interesting Pips! (Ben Stiller, Jack Black, &…Robert Downey Jr?) No, still not making it up. Love the woo woo move, boys. Hi Carrie Underwood! Wow, I could have gone the rest of my natural life without seeing Archie in his boxers doin’ the Tom Cruise thang. Who came up with that? No, seriously? (And…..is Amanda Overmeyer, um, not all together with us this evening? Just an observation…) Hi Jason Castro in a suit! (Was I the only one waiting for George Michael to come out and sing? And then he did?) Hi George Michael! Sing an uptempo song next time! Aaaaaaand, finally we get to the winner part. Thank you Simon for apologizing for the David Cook buzz kill last night. Well done.

Now….who wins Season 7? David……..Wow, no lie, my DVR cut off after Ryan said, “David…….” I swear to god! You know who told me who won American Idol after two hours of primetime filler? Jimmy Kimmel. Seriously! I watched it hours after it was actually on, and when I turned it off to go look at freaking You Tube to find out who won, the channel was on Kimmel and clicks over just as he says “David Cook won American Idol.” Ha! Sort of fitting, really. On the down side, now my first David Cook album purchase will be a 19 Entertainment produced CD, but what’s a girl to do? The sing out wasn’t horrifying, so who knows!Wonder what will happen to Archie?

So…..thoughts? Feelings? What row are your seats in? (Mine are ridiculously good. Hey, don’t judge me.)

Winners of this week’s SHaQ Attack contest announced tomorrow! DISH!!!

Best in Show :)

Loved the DWTS finale! I thought the cha cha face off was a great way to do the first round. I liked that a lot and hope they keep going with that in future seasons. Kristi took that round hands down - I actually really enjoyed watching them together this time. I thought Christian was fun and Jason did okay, but there was no comparison there.

Although -hey, did you know a woman hasn’t won in five seasons? Because, wait five seconds and they’ll tell you again! Pimp the girl power much? And I’m a girl, would love to see a girl win, but sheesh, let her do it without all the obvious boostage.

Freestyle round - It’s funny, but while I thought Kristi was fantastic and a huge boost back up over the past few seasons of freestyle, she is not a hip hopper. So it was funny that, for once, the hip hop didn’t work for me, but Uncle Lenny was all over it!! Ha! Still, it was cute and difficult as all hell, and we got to hear Mark’s British accent pop out (he’s American but grew up in England) so it was all good for me. I thought Jason brought the fun and I just laughed and enjoyed the whole routine. And I’m all for as much man flesh as they want to show me. He can keep his shirt off all the time, won’t hurt my feelings. Christian starts off with the manflesh and shaking what his mama gave him (thank you forever, stoner camera dude, for that close up.) I thought it was hot Latiny goodness, from start to finish, and was really amazed at how he managed to finish out this competition at a pretty high level. Kudos to Cheryl for the choreo that got him this far. What I liked most about their routine, was that it was totally grounded in ballroom, no hip hop in sight (we have Thursday night for that!) with all the lifts put in as an adjunct to a great ballroom routine. Worked for me. Kristi wins this round, but for sticking with the core purpose of the show alone, they take a very, very close second for me.

All told? Yeah, it’s Kristi’s trophy to lose. If she can’t pull this off? I don’t know what it will take. I just hope all the girl power pimpage doesn’t backfire on them.

So, who wins? Results Show - Usher. Twice. Recaps. A lot. Finally? A winner. First, who’s not a winner? In third place, Christian & Cheryl. And though I’ve loved them and enjoyed them, I think that was the right call. Then, stars return to dance again - fun to see everyone, and realize just how good the finalists grew to become. Hi Adam! Best speech ever. Ha! Most honest speech goes to jr winner Brandon “I am SO excited right now” when the Dallas Cowboy Cheerleaders gave him his trophy. Tom Bergeron is the best host ever. Hilarious. Finalists dance one more time. Jason finally gets his perfect 30. It was, perhaps, the most fun all around season ever, with the most completely fun bunch, but all things must come to an end, and a winner crowned. This season, the glitter ball trophy of maximum cheesiness goes to? Kristi & Mark!! Well deserved! Made even better by how everyone gathered round, Jason and Christian put Kristi up on their shoulders with the trophy. I don’t ever remember a cast so truly enjoying each other. Great finale to a great season! (Wouldn’t you kill to be at that cast party?) See you in September, Tom!

Now Idols sing for the win….which David will win?

Okay, seriously? Wtf was up with that opening? Sugarfoot vs Babycakes? Big ol’ arena tonight. Ten minutes in and I’m so done with the boxing metaphors.

Clive picks the first set of tunes. Cook gets U2’s I Still Haven’t Found What I’m Looking For and Archie gets Elton’s Don’t Let The Sun Go Down On Me. And you know? Not bad, old man, not bad.

Loved Cook. Loved. And was it me or did he look pretty hot? Seriously. Rowr. You could tell he was totally getting off on singing in such a big arena and I really enjoyed seeing that. (Plus? I get to see him sing in person next month thanks to a close friend….seats right up front. First time ever seeing Idols sing live and I’m actually really looking forward to it. Wild!) Judges - You know what? I’m not even going to care at this point. Like Cook said, competition is over, now we’re just having fun. Great way to see it.

Archie? Great song choice for him. He’s…him. Him squared. Well, done. They are so different, so you’re going to like what you like, but given that Cook is way more my style and taste, Archie is really entertaining and good and it makes for a fun finale. He’s working it out, y’all, Archie Style.

Round One? Judges give it to Archie. I say, a tie. They’re too different, and both did themselves quite well. Although, Cook simply Cooked, while I will say that Archie Out Archied even his own self. So I’m willing to concede.

Second Round - Each singer gets the top ten vote getters from the song writer’s competition and they can choose from that which one to sing. Oh. Yay. (Have you heard them? Did you hear Jordin’s finale song last year? Yeah. Not real excited here in the Kauffman house, gotta tell ya.)

Oh, and still? So done with the boxing thing.

Cook comes out with the axe strapped on and I’m totally along for the ride. I liked Dream Big and liked it for this show, given the moment. Nice choice, nice delivery. Nicely done for an unknown, and whoever wrote it, shouldn’t be cringing in embarrassment like last year’s winner. You can tell he’s made up his mind to just enjoy this night for whatever it will be, soak up the moment, and what happens, happens. I concur, Cook, I concur.

Archie chooses In This Moment, which is (shocking!) a ballad. He does an Archie job, he’s in very good voice tonight, but I found it kinda boring. However, to be fair, I’m not a ballad fan. This did nothing to alter that sentiment.

This round, for me, hands down went to Cook, but I’m sure they’ll give it Archie again. Which? They do. I’m hoping the pimpage works, as I’d like him to win, so Cook isn’t tied to making an Idol produced record. Cook will have a career. The win would mean more to Archie.

Final Round: Contestant chosen song. And shut up Jim Lampley.

Cook picks a song by Collective Soul, which he has never sung before. Archie goes with Lennon’s Imagine, which he performed on the show in the first two weeks, and feels was his strongest performance. We’ll see how that pans out for him. (Not exactly holding my breath there.)

Cook goes first, folk guitar and the microphone. It’s slow and melodic, but not exactly balladic. I like it. A lot. I would buy this man’s album tonight. I know Archie has embraced the Idol Attitude better tonight, but this is the man whose career I would follow and whose concert ticket I would buy. Loved this one. It’s understated, so it won’t grab the judges, but it works for me. And it works on him, because once he’s finished, the moment, everything he’s done to get to this point, overwhelms him and when the crowd rises to its feet for a spontaneous standing ovation we get Cook tears. And we get mine. That? Is an American Idol. The judges can’t refute that….and they don’t. Except Simon, who, wow, totally harshed the buzz. I usually agree with Cowell, but dude? Way to ruin a man’s perfect final moment. Appreciate the honesty, but seriously? Shut up.

Archie caps the night with a stellar performance of Imagine, and the crown is totally his to lose. If he wins - it’s a win all the way around for me. So, there is no way for this to end badly.

Hi Ruben!!

So? DISH time. Who wins?

Don’t forget you have until 8pm tonight to get your second vote in for the week. Good Luck!

MAC Daddy Wednesday…

Check back tomorrow for all the MAC you can handle. For contest entry rules, see Monday’s post!

A week of winners!

It’s Finale Week for Our Favorite Shows, so of course, we’re going to have a Very Special SHaQ Attack contest week to go with it. Duh!

Our remaining reality shows will crown two winners this week, and so will we! You have two chances to win this week and there will be two winners! And then we can all sit around and watch the season premiere of So You Think You Can Dance on Thursday and revel in our winningness. Really. Win-win, you know?

So, here is how it works: Dancing With The Stars crowns a winner tomorrow night. You have between now and then to send me an email to donna@donnakauffman.com with I Know Who Can Dance in the subject line, then your vote for winner in the email itself. You can choose Jason, Christian, or Kristi. You have until Tuesday night, 8pm EST to get your votes in. One winner will be drawn from all the correct entries.

And! You have a second chance to win. Wednesday night they crown the winner of American Idol. Send me an email (same address as above) with My Idol Is! in the subject line, and either Cook or Archie in the body of your note. (No, you can’t just say David!) You have until Wednedsay night, 8pm EST to get your votes in. One winner will be drawn from the correct votes.

Both winners will be announced on Thursday. And on Friday, we MAC the new dance show!

So, get your vote on. And tomorrow, we’ll get our MAC on! And then? We DISH!!

Happy Monday everyone, and good luck!

It’s Friday!

Another week over….another deadline (almost) met! To celebrate, let’s announce this week’s winner in the SHaQ Attack contest. I took it easy on you guys this week, all you had to do was email me. And the winning blog babe this week is Sue A! Woo hoo! Pass the ice cream scoop!

Tune in Monday for a new contest and a week of Finale MAC! Who wins the glitter ball trophy of cheesy goodness? Who wins (we’ll call it winning) America’s Favorite Singing Contest? How much do we really care?

Oh, we care all right. Ridiculous levels of caring. About which we will immediately forget and turn all our slavish attention and love/hate on a new crop of haplesss reality contestants mere days later, because that’s the kind of rabid, unapologetic, diehard, demanding, entertain-me viewers we are. And we like it that way!

So bring on Dancers, bring on Moles, bring on…hey, shouldn’t it be time for another race around the world here really soon? Where’s Phil? We need More Phil! Who can we get to check on this?

I will get back to you on that. :) In the meantime, have a fabulous weekend!!

And then there were two…

So, we open the penultimate results show with an event from Fantasia. She doesn’t just come out and sing, y’all. It’s an event. And the very, absolute best moment of the event? Is when the camera pans to Cowell near the end and he has this total wtf hell kind of trainwreck am I watching here? look on his face. Worth the price of admission, right there.

Then Ryan starts the countdown by calling Archie out first, who looks even younger than usual, if that’s possible. He’s like 12 now. We do get the hometown clips now. He says he’s stoked, which sounds about ten kinds of wrong coming from him. Then he’s so completely overwhelmed that anyone turns out to see him he cries and says gosh a whole lot. Has he been watching the show? But it’s all rather touching, and makes me worry for him, all at the same time. How weird is it that when they show his audition clip, he looks a lot sharper and more current there, older, then how he’s been groomed for the show. Hunh. He’s incredibly adorable in his clip package and his mother is a total knockout. How did freakshow daddy get that? Just askin. Best random comment moment of the night? Staring out at all those people screaming his name, and wondering, “Where did they all park?” HA! Honestly, don’t you think he was channeling Castro there, for just a moment?

Syesha is up next for the package treatment segment of tonight’s show. Her mom, not so much with the knockout, and her dad - remember him? He’d just gotten out of rehab when she auditioned? So the exposure into her world definitely grounds your perception of what’s she’s done and where she’s come from. They’re so overwhelmed, it’s nice to see the support. Could have done without the handstand by the mayor… yow. What was that? And Archie can feel better about all the crying. He’s so not alone.

Please, don’t make Cook cry. I’m begging you.

He goes home to Missouri and it’s Archie levels of craziness there. Wow. And even Mr Cool is blown away by the number of people who came out (in the rain no less) to see him. And his baby brother Andrew? Kinda hot, y’all. Needs some stylin, but it’s in there. Heck, if they can hottie up older bro, anything is possible. And he’s a singer, too. Oh crap, they went and made Cook cry. I know, I know, it has to be amazingly overwhelming and at a time when they are stressed out and exhausted. So, I’m over it. So is he, quickly, thank god. And when it comes back to the studio, Ryan’s all “see you next year, Andrew” who nods…and did you catch their mom? Totally shaking her head no. HA!

Who’s in? Not much of a surprise, the David’s are it. Cook is all big bro to first Syesha, then Archie. Awwww. Syesha does a really nice job on her sing out (and did you see Archie singing along under his breath? You just know he knows his songs and everyone elses, too. Ha! It was cute.) And then they had to go and show her dad singing along and that made me teary. Dammit! Now I’m crying. Sheesh!

It was a pretty good results show - I actually watched it start to finish for a change. Next week could be interesting!

Who’s gonna win it??

Don’t forget, last day to get in this week’s SHaQ Attack contest. See Monday for details!!
