Final Four, Free Stuff Friday AND? Sneak Peek!!!

Okay, in order: SYTYCD Final Four…well, they got all but one right for me, but it’s no surprise that Evan is in and Ade is out. A shame, but not a surprise. Just glad Brandon made it through! On the girls side, they got it right with Jeanine and Kayla, and Melissa taking her final bow.

Mostly I just lovedlovedloved that they brought back more previous routines. It was so great getting to see them again - and wow, how intense were Twitch and Katy? One of my fave routines and you can tell they’ve done it on the road tour a bunch because the intensity was off the charts. Bring more old routines back!

Also loved? Jabbawockeez. Wow, how awesome were they? I love America’s Best Dance Crew. Now they need to bring on Hok’s crew, who won it this past season!! They were incredible, too.

Alright, I was going to do Free Stuff Friday next, but I cannot STAND it a moment longer. I got the cover art for my February release, Here Comes Trouble, in the mail yesterday and it is, I think, the best cover packaging I’ve ever gotten. Yes. Ever.

So….check this out! Yes, it’s a monster file, but the medium size was tiny, and, well, I liked it better big….but there you go. Back cover copy follows immediately after scrolling, ever so slowly, downward…

Top 6 to Final Four

I thought last night on So You Think You Can Dance was okay. A few really great dances, but it struck me that I’m not as excited by the finalists, not all of them anyway, as I’d like to be, so the pairings weren’t as exciting.

As much as I think they are all great in their craft, neither Melissa or even Evan, cutie though he is, really excite me at this point. I’d have much MUCH rather had Janette back to be paired up with any of them. And Jeanine, who I have thoroughly enjoyed, fell flat for me last night, despite dancing well in both her dances and her solo. I don’t know what was missing, but it went from the girls being so solid, to two of three of them not really moving me. Kayla’s dancing was the only one that grabbed me, and I know she’s not the “fireball” personality of either of the other two. But for pure dancing, she’s my favorite of the remaining girls, and I honestly thought it would be Jeanine.

The guys are stronger, with all three being more watchable, collectively, than the girls. Ade and Brandon are stronger than Evan, but it’s Brandon who is truly shining to me.

For my pick, it’s Brandon and Kayla as the top two, with Brandon winning the whole thing. As for tonight, I think it should be Evan and Melissa leaving…and thought it was interesting that Nigel round about commented on the fact that Ameriker only voted to keep Melissa in because of the choreo she got from Tasty.

So, the hit dances of the night for me, were the contemporary piece with Brandon and Kayla - loved seeing them dance together for pure artistry if nothing else. And their disco was intense, y’all! Wow. Top two.

I liked the girls superpower routine, but Sonja’s Oompa Loompa Dance was fantastic for the guys. Top Three for me. Loved. It.

Melissa and Evan did a great quickstep, and Broadway, but I still really feel like Melissa hasn’t been truly dragged into a new realm. I know ballroom is not her world, but she’s tended to get dances where she can still dance classically. Or maybe she just makes all dances look like ballroom-et. And Evan did truly step up, but he’s not of the caliber of the other two. His solo was adorkable though.

Ade and Jeanine’s samba seemed very stompy to me. I was not into it at all. But I did enjoy their hip hop. Jeanine’s solo was good, as was Ade’s. But no one touched Brandon in that department.

So…there you have it. Agree? Disagree? How about a free book instead? Or both! So, here’s the deal…email me at donna@donnakauffman.com and put “dancing, schmancing, where’s the free stuff?” in the subject line. One lucky blog babe will have her choice of free advance copy of either the Kissing Santa Claus anthology, or A Great Kisser, my November release. Winner announced tomorrow - check the blog to see if you’re the winner!

Okay, now it’s time to email…..and DISH! Who goes home? Who is your final two? Who will win???

Some good, some bad, and some huh?

On So You Think You Can Dance last night:
Some good…seeing all the faces from seasons past. And though the reprised routines might not have been as powerful out of context, it was still great seeing them again. Loved seeing Wade dancing Rama Lama. Wish we could have gotten more face time with the alumnus. And though it was lacking in really strong content, I am a total sucker for anything Chorus Line and it gave me chills hearing that song again and watching them dance.

Some bad….Janette AND Kayla in the bottom two? There’s a lose-lose situation, especially with Melissa still in the mix. Damn cancer routine. (I know, I know, I cried. But she still should be the one to go…) And here I was worried about Jeanine! Hunh. They did get it right with Jason leaving, but Brandon in the bottom two over Evan? Who managed to send his parter home? Wrongo ranger, America.

Some huh?….What the hockey sticks was Katie Holmes doing there again? Did anyone actually watch her whole performance all the way through? Man, she was barely out of that car and I was itching to fast forward. What was that? And why? Couldn’t she have just cut them a check and been done with it? I mean, I’d have rather seen Adam, Carrie Ann, and Nigel doing something (as fellow co founders of Dizzy Feet) than Mrs. Cruise doing….well, nothing, really. Lip syncing and shimmying…. Not so much entertainment with that. It’s not like she’s some kind of legend or something. I simply don’t get the hype. Not to mention the time wasted that could have been spent bringing back other past performances. Yikes.

All in all, not as wonderful a 100th episode as I’d thought it would be, but still entertaining. Sorry, Janette! You’ll be missed. And if pasty ballerina doesn’t get a krump routine next week, I’m calling producer foul.

On to the fun, free stuff portion of today’s blog. Alls ya had to do to win an advance copy of my November release, A Great Kisser, was to email me…and a whole lotta ya did. But there can only be one winner, and that lucky blog babe is? Lynn R! Woo hoo! Congratulations!!

Hope everyone has a stellar weekend. I will catch everyone next week with more MAC and another advance copy up for grabs!

But now….DISH! What did you think of the 100th episode? Who would be your top guy? Girl? Who should win the whole enchilada?

MAC is back!

Morning After Commentary on last night’s Dancing With the Stars. (Okay, okay, so it’s almost afternoon. I had to spend the morning with Graham MacLeod. He’s a hot Scot and he wears the plaid. Need I say more? Oh, well, yes, he is fictional…but he’s MY fictional. Some Like it Scot? I know I do! Hint….you’ll all get to meet Graham next May…)

So, on with the dancing! Lots of stuff going on last night, but I agree with Nigel, the first three quarters were a bit lackluster. Possibly because they had them all doing a million different thing. Four couples, doing two dances each, one solo each, and a big group number. That’s a lot of dancing….which, color me greedy, I was more than selfishly happy to enjoy, but I think the overload might be taking a toll on the remaining contestants.

Also, we had Ellen on the judging panel, along with Nigel, Mary, and Mia. And, I love her, she makes me laugh, and she was funny….but I’ll respectfully say that she might have been a bit out of place on the panel. She looked nervous about it, too. Still….very funny.

Up first, we get the big group routine and yay, it’s Travis back as the choreo! Love him, and I do really like his work. This was no exception, although I will say that I kind of kept waiting for it to really kick into a higher gear or something. Still, it was unique and entertaining. Good job.

Regarding all the solos - most interesting and attention holding for me were Jeanine and Janette (still get the names confused, so was glad I liked them both!) Kayla was okay, good, but Melissa was samey samey for me. Brandon’s was a little disappointing, but picked up steam, as did Jason’s, but not riveting this go. Evan is always adorkable, but also samey samey by now. Still, he’s always fun to watch, very easy on the eyes his routines, and joyful. Ade was powerful in his solo, my favorite of all the guys.

Couples:
Kayla & Jason got a Tasty Oreo Broadway routine and, lo and behold, I liked this one, too. What’s up with our man, Tyce anyway? He’s like…good now. Second routine was a Shane Sparks zombie thing, also really well done, quirky and very entertaining. Definitely a step up from a lot of what’s come before hip hop wise. I don’t think either of these two have anything to worry about.

Evan and Janette - They did pretty well in both routines. Okay, so Janette rocked both routines and Evan mostly kept up with her, but again, the adorkable factor helps a lot with him.

Ade and Melissa - their rumba, ah….not my fave. And can only be that picky because the talent is so good this year. However, their second routine was another Tyce, this one about breast cancer, and if you could watch that routine without getting teary, well then, you’re a stronger blog babe than me. Wow. Seriously moving. And while the story was what really carried that performance, they did a wonderful job with it. I had Melissa on the train home this week, but that probably saved her…which makes me worry about:

Jeanine and Brandon: Well, the Jeanine part anyway. And she’d fabulous. Has been, was tonight, too, but I wonder if she’ll get caught in that emotional dragnet of Tyce’s routine for Melssa and end up on the bottom. I hope not. Their first routine to the new choreographer’s work was powerful and great. Loved. It. But the waltz, wow….that was the worst. music. ever. Even worse than that. Nothing was going to overcome that plodding dreck of crap music. Yes, it was that bad. Te yellow dress did her no favors either and we had waaaaaay too much time to think about it while the music. took. forever. I was glad Nigel addressed that, but I still think the combo of that routine along with the wrenching cancer routine might hurt at least Jeanine. Loved her solo. But, will it be enough? I guess we’ll find out tonight!

And tonight also marks their 100th show and we have a lot of previous dancers coming back to reprise some of the highlight routines from the past five years. That should be fabulous! The fact that Katie Holmes is also going to performing…I care not so much.

Don’t forget to enter this week’s Free Stuff Friday contest. See Tuesday’s post for all the details. And thanks for sharing all the books you’re reading. I love hearing about that - so keep them coming!

Another Tuesday, another Free Stuff Friday!

I’m back from conference and mostly recovered. Great event, good signings, fun was had by all. But I’m happy to be home and back to work.

Speaking of which, for all of you who enjoy my great Scots, I have good news! I am presently working on a new book, scheduled to come out next June (after a whole slew of other new stuff!) This one is titled Some Like It Scot and is quite possibly the most fun I’ve had yet.

Tonight we get the top eight dancing on So You Think You Can Dance…check out my MAC in tomorrow’s blog. But rightthisverysecond you can enter to win a free book this Friday. Another advance copy of my November release, A Great Kisser, is up for grabs. So…who wants to grab it? RWA Literacy Signing

This is national conference week for me and I’m happy as it’s here in my hometown of DC!

Tomorrow we launch things off with a huge (and I mean monster) charity booksigning for literacy at the Marriott Wardman Park Hotel (right near the National Zoo.)

The “Readers for Life” event runs from 5:30 to 7:30. Metro access is Woodley Park, which is right down the street from the hotel entrance. There will be 500 (not a typo - yes, five hundred) authors signing their books - all proceeds go to support literacy. It’s crazy go nuts, and you should totally be there! I will be signing - you can find me deep in the “K” section. Click on the link for an index of all the authors participating. Come join the insanity and support a great cause.

I don’t know how much MACn I will get done this week, however you will have a shot at winnning a book on Free Stuff Friday! And to celebrate both finishing a deadline, national conference, and just continuing the Christmas in July feeling, the winning blog babe will score an advance review copy of my November single title, A Great Kisser! Be the first on your block to own it. :)

To enter, send an email to donna@donnakauffman.com with “I want to score free stuff” in the subject line. Winner will be announced in Friday’s blog. (Don’t forget - you have to check the blog to see if you’ve won!) Good Luck!!

Also, you can check out the latest, including pictures from the RWA conference on my Facebook page. Yes, I finally got Face’d! Come join the fun. :)

Two down…nine to go!

So, the bottom three on SYTYCD…not shocking. Philip/Jeanine, Jason/Caitlyn, Ade/Melissa. I suppose everyone would have put Kupono/Kayla there instead, but I think they had the stronger week due to Mia’s routine.

Anyhoo….so figuring Ade/Melissa are safe given it’s their first time and the others have been there before, I was saying goodbye to Jason/Cat. Turned out I was only half right. Buh bye, Caitlyn. However? It’s Philip who is out for the guys. And, though I find him far more charismatic than Jason, I do get the vote.

Next week, new partners, and Americker decides who goes home. Should be interesting!

Did you catch Big Bro? Yeah. Trainwreck inside the first hour. I may skim, but not MAC’n it.

On to Free Stuff Friday! Alls ya had ta do was email me, and many of you did. One winning blog babe, and this week? It’s Milena! Congrats! Send me an address and a and advance review copy of Kissing Santa Claus will be on its way!

Tune in next week, where Christmas in July continues with another chance to win an advance copy of this October’s new anthology.

Hope everyone has a wonderful weekend!!

I finally got Faced!

Facebook‘d that is. Yes, yes, hell finally froze over and there I am. Join me if you dare. Fair warning, it will be the blind leading the blind.

SO! On to So You Think You Can Dance MAC. Wowza, another really interesting night. I don’t know that it was nearly as strong, across the board, as last week, but we got the six remaining pairs doing two dances each, so plenty of entertainment bang for the buck. Which…not bad for free. :)

I’m both bummed and kind of excited to find out that this is their last week paired together. New pairings for the remaining top ten next week. Some pairs will hopefully benefit from this - see below - but some, I’m really torn. Can’t wait!!

Okay, so last night, here we go: First off, I was actually happy to see Tasty Oreo as a judge, as that meant he couldn’t be a choreographer this week. (Seriously.) However, can’t say I’m loving the Amazon queen who replaced him. I like her routines, actually, as I love more traditional Broadway, but I question how good she is at actually instructing. She seems to feel she’s above the mere talents of these poor kids. And it shows. As for Tasty O, he was interesting as a judge.

Overall, I think they were somewhat softer on the kids, although there were some tough criticisms as the night wore on. But Tyce gave constructive advice (if you could understand his meanings) and was otherwise very respectful of the dancers. Which, after this horrifying comments during auditions was actually nice to see. Not my fave guest judge (bring back Adam!!) but not bad.

Ok, so first out the gate we had Melissa and Ade doing disco and I’m shocked to say that since Doriana, Mistress of the Dark, has sped things up, it has really made this a genre I’m enjoying! Who knew? I think the two did a great job. Possibly not as huge a fave as the Brandon/Janette routine, but that one was tough to beat. Their second dance was a waltz, which was well done, but these guys going first…not sure how memorable a night it was for them. Could they be in trouble? They’re all doing superb jobs now, so its’ not a matter of sending home a lesser dancer or couple at this point…it’s all in what’s the most memorable, and I’m not sure this was it. I think these two will do fine split up - they made a good team, but I think they’d shine individually with anyone.

Going second in both rounds…Kayla and Kupono. I wish they’d been slated later as they were in trouble last week. They got a Mia routine that I thought was very well done - wish it had been theirs second one. Of course, they nailed it last week and ended up bottom three, so who knows. Their second routine was the Broadway and they were cute, but didn’t hit it hard enough. The judges got that one right. Could they be in trouble again? If they make it, I think Kayla for sure will benefit from a better pairing. Love to see her with Branden.

Next was Jason and Catilyn - fun fox trot, though very over praised for me. Their second dance by Mandy Moore was imminently more watchable and memorable, but I’m not sure it will save them from bottom three. I think Jason is in the most trouble this week, and though I’d like to see Caitlyn with another partner…she might be as well. This is another pair that will most likely benefit from being split up, especially Caitlyn if she makes it through.

God, poor Jeanine and Phillip - who on earth thought a Russian folk dance was going to help them out? I mean, there wasn’t much more they could have done with it. Jeanine was brill as always, but yikes, show! Their second routine was a fun jive that even Phillip did a good job with, despite a slip or two. I don’t know if they’ll be bottom three (half the teams will be, so it’s a tough call) but I seriously doubt Jeanine is going anywhere if they are. Phillip…not so sure. I love him, but I think he might be in a wobbly position along with Jason. However, Jason would likely go first if they are both there. Another pair I’d like to see split up for Jeanine’s sake, though it might hurt Phillip. I did like these two a lot.

Randi and Evan, the cutie patootie train, were up next. I enjoyed both of their routines, though thought the first one, the NappyTabs preggers hip hop was the more fun of the two. Cute as buttons, those two. Second dance was a rumba that I dont’ think either of them nailed (but Pasha! Anya! Hi!!!) and so could the cutie twosome be in trouble? Hmmm. I do think these two will have a hard time being split up, because it diminishes the cute factor, which is largely what is getting them through. Or at least Evan anyway. Not sure how he’ll do. I think Randi will come through the switch better.

Now…that leaves the wowza da wow wow final couple as Brandon and Janette. Dang. Squared. Again. And really, on initial pairing, I’d have never gotten the power couple vibe from these two, but dayum. Another amazing night. The Argentine tango was ridiculolusly awesome, but matched only by the Wade Robson piece they totally nailed to. the. wall. Love these two and positively hate that we won’t see them dance together again. Have no clue how they’ll fair, but they are defintiely top numero uno for me again this week. Whew!

So, of the six, for me personally in terms of how much I enjoyed watching them tonight, if not always technical skill: I’d put Brandon/Janette at the top. Melissa/Ade in the middle, with Kayla/Kupono and Randi/Evan tied right behind them, leaving Jason/Caitlyn and Philip/Jeanine in the bottom. But wow, other than the top pair, it could really be any of them. In almost all cases, except Ade/Melissa, with the rest of them, the girls are the stronger partners…so while I could see Jason/Phillp/Evan or Kupono easily in the bottom three, with the girls, almost none of them really deserve to go over some of those guys. I’m thinking Caitlyn is the most in danger, however, and I’m betting she leaves, along with Jason.

What say you, Blog Babes?

Tomorrow we have results, and maybe some Top Chef Masters AND the first night of Big Brother, along with the announcement of the winner of this week’s Free Stuff Friday. Pretty decent freebie this week, too, if I may say so. Check out Tuesday’s post to get in on the action. Winner announced right here, and only here, so if you wanna know if you won or not…here’s the place to be.

Same bat time, same bat station.

And now? DISH!! Who’d ya love most? Who’s going home? Who do you want to see paired up? I’m still debating that one…

Free Stuff Friday!

Time for another Free Stuff Friday contest. Woo hoo!

To enter, just drop an email to donna@donnakauffman.com with “Pick me!” in the subject line. I’ll draw one name from the pile and announce it right here on Friday morning. Winner gets an advance copy of my October anthology Kissing Santa Claus (w/ Jill Shalvis and HelenKay Dimon!) Good luck!

And with Wimbledon over and empty airwaves until Wednesday night, I was forced, forced I tell you, to watch Bachelorette last night. Holy mother of neckbone stew…who was that sleazebag singer guy? Yikes! And it took her that long to figure his crap out? Wow.

Of the other three remaining, however, Good Job, Jilly! Some pretty nice eye candy there. Not knowing what’s been in the past beyond the little up front recap as the show started, I have to say, Reid is my personal favorite (what a cutie) but seems (rightfully) anxious about actually proposing to someone he just met (because he’s sane), Kypton (?!?!) is so not into her (and scary mom!!) so Ed, I think, is our eventual winner. He seems sincere and grounded and into her…except did anyone notice how he didn’t look at her while talking to her? What’s up with that? Camera shy? Nerves? Or, also not as into her as he’s saying he is? I dunno. Still, nice eye candy.

And with Death Valley Reality Summer Days upon us, with only the promise of Big Brother (not holding my breath) I may just have to watch the remaining three weeks of this trainwreck. I know!

Still, what is up with that Wes character? And I mean character. What bad spahetti western did he stroll out of? Can anyone ’splain how he made it to the final four? Surely the dance card didn’t drop off that steeply after those top three…

So, DISH, and help a reality withdrawal sister out. :)
